We Tested the Best Electric Wine Bottle Openers—Here Are the Top Picks

From a mini opener perfect for traveling to splurge-worthy sets that include some valuable extras, here are the best electric wine openers, according to our at-home testers.

Gone are the days when bulky electric wine openers were loud contraptions that broke easily. Now the corkscrew is hidden within a stylish gadget worthy of a permanent spot on your bar. In order to help you find your new favorite wine opener, we sent the top electric versions to at-home testers and evaluated each one on its design, ease of use, quality of build, effectiveness, and overall value.

A manual wine key corkscrew works fine enough to open a bottle , except when you use it at the wrong angle and can’t get the cork out, or the cork breaks and you have to try again, or small pieces manage to break free and need to be fished out later. It’s then that you think about getting an electric wine opener where you simply hold the corkscrew over the bottle, press a button, and—voila!—the cork is removed, and you can go about your wine.

What We Like

  • Incredibly easy to operate

  • USB charger plugs into wall

  • Looks elegant on display

What We Don’t Like

  • Pricey

Rabbit is renowned for its wine bottle openers, both manual and electric. With a timeless black and gold design, the RBT Electric Corkscrew by Rabbit is effortless and definitely a worthwhile splurge.

Measuring 8.27 inches in height and made from stainless steel, the RBT fits over the neck of a bottle and will automatically begin to penetrate the cork. The opener also auto-ejects once finished. The set includes an anti-slip coaster to prevent your wine bottle from rotating during opening, as well as an integrated foil cutter that can be attached easily to the top of the model.

Unlike many rechargeable openers, the RBT’s USB cable plugs directly into the wall for charging and opens over 30 bottles before a recharge.

The first thing our tester noticed was the sleek golden-brass finish on this electric corkscrew. The second thing she noticed was said finish picking up fingerprints.

According to our at-home tester, the automated nature of this opener made it feel more like it came from the 21st century than the others, but it did break the (natural) cork a bit as it was retrieving it from the neck of the bottle. She found the process was mostly effortless, and it was one of the quietest models.

What We Like

  • Hidden magnetic foil cutter included

  • Sleek, stylish design

  • Fully automatic

What We Don’t Like

  • AC adapter wall plug not included

Glass bar carts with gold or brass accents are popular in home decor. A sleek opener with an Art Deco style, WITANHURST’s Electric Wine Opener is designed to fit right in.

Available in black, with gold, red, or silver accents, this opener automatically removes the cork when placed on the neck of a bottle and auto-ejects it afterward. A magnetic foil cutter connects to the top of the model and cleverly hides the power button. A compact base for wireless charging and USB charging completes the design. However, the AC adapter wall plug isn’t included. After charging, it can open up to 60 bottles.

Appearance-wise, this was one of our tester’s favorites. It looks striking and elegant in person. The foil cutter atop the power button was a nice touch, but it did take the foil cutter a few tries to successfully remove the foil. It took out the cork cleanly (no breakage here!) and quickly, though, and for that reason, is one of our tester’s top picks.

What We Like

  • Cordless

  • Easy and effortless to use

What We Don’t Like

  • Battery may stop holding charge after a few years

Once a bottle is opened, it’s best to drink the wine within a few days as it starts to oxidize. But Cuisinart’s Wine Opener can help extend your wine’s freshness with its vacuum sealer.

Corks can be done away with by just a single touch, and the wine opener’s rubberized grip makes it comfortable to handle. Brushed stainless accents add to its elegant design. The vacuum sealer works by pumping down on the unit’s top to create an airtight seal.

The charging base takes up a small footprint on your countertop or bar and includes a slot to store the foil cutter. It can open up to 80 bottles of wine on a single charge.

Our tester found this easy to grip and to use, both to remove corks and to create a vacuum seal. It doesn’t require as precise centering as some of the other options, which is nice when you’re in a hurry to open that bottle of wine for dinner or a party.

An opener isn’t all you need to enjoy a great glass of wine. For those needing a full wine kit and interested in a rechargeable wine opener, there’s this 4-in-1 set from Crenova.

The kit is centered around the non-slip matte-finished wine opener. After using the included foil cutter, you can open your wine in six seconds by pressing the up and down buttons. This set comes with a swan-neck aerator pourer and a manual vacuum stopper. Charging via the included USB cable takes about two and a half hours, and the unit can open up to 80 bottles on a full charge.

Though it took a bit longer to charge than it said (it took more like three and a half hours for our tester), this opener was fairly straightforward to use. The snap-in foil cutter made a clean cut on the first try and the cork came out a bit more quickly than average. The aerator pourer didn’t drip and helped bring out the flavor of the wine more quickly.

What We Like

  • One-touch operation

  • Includes foil cutter

  • Looks sleek

What We Don’t Like

An included manual foil cutter is built into the opener’s stand. This model uses four AA batteries, which are not included, and opens up to 150 bottles before a new set is needed.

It took a few tries for our tester to get this one to work—the down button needs to be held down for a bit longer than the others and the first few tries were unsuccessful. However, if you’re prepared for that quirk, it’s simple to use and it’s nice not to have to wait for it to charge.

Ozeri Travel Series Electric Wine Opener

Amazon

What We Like

  • Great for picnics and travel

  • Charges quickly

  • Transparent shell

What We Don’t Like

  • Some wobbling when opening

Though many electric wine openers are cordless and stay charged through multiple bottles, they take up a bit of space. This travel-size opener from Ozeri is perfect for both smaller kitchens and wine lovers who often open a bottle on the road.

Measuring 6 inches tall and weighing 1.12 pounds, this compact opener opens synthetic and natural corks with the push of a button. The transparent shell is great for lining up the opener and seeing when the cork has been removed. It can open up to 80 bottles before needing a recharge and comes with a USB charger, which is helpful for a quick charge in the car.

Our tester found this one the flimsiest (unsurprising, given that it’s a travel size opener) and the loudest of the openers. It did, however, seamlessly open the wine bottle and the transparent shell was helpful.
