Verizon Updates Coverage Map with the inclusion of 5G Ultra Wideband

Verizon has just updated its nationwide coveragemap with new “ultra-wideband” C-Band 5G coverage.

Verizon Wireless offers two types of 5G service: 5G Ultra Wideband, and 5G Nationwide.

  • 5G Ultra Wideband is Verizon’s highest performing 5G. Our 5G Ultra Wideband network uses high band (mmWave) and mid-band (C-band) spectrum to deliver a top-of-the-line 5G experience.
  • 5G Nationwide is the everyday 5G available across the country. This service uses a low-band spectrum to provide great coverage with performance comparable to  4G LTE. 5G Nationwide is available in 2,700+ cities. In these areas, 5G-enabled devices show a 5G icon instead of a 4G LTE icon on the device screen.

Below is the map :

Verizon has voluntarily limited our 5G C-band deployment around select airports.

Verizon’s fastest 5G service is 5G Ultra Wideband. It responds 10x faster than 4G and runs up to 10x faster than 4G. 5G Nationwide is available alongside 4G LTE and offers a similar experience as Verizon’s 4G network. It provides a 5G network that is widely available and reliable. Only the top Unlimited plans have access to 5G Ultra Wideband as well as 5G Nationwide. All other plans only have access to 5G Nationwide.

But, there is consensus that the map is not very accurate at the moment. Users have reported that C Band was found in certain areas of the coverage map but not in others. This projection seems more like a projection of C-Band’s future location. However, coverage maps are not always at the level we want them to be.

Verizon will use the new airwaves to increase its $50/month wireless internet service. This is in addition to allowing phones to access double- or triple LTE speeds. Wireless home internet coverage will not be available everywhere, as it is dependent on the network capacity.

Surprised to find that coverage on C Band is available in rural areas. Some areas offer coverage that extends hundreds miles beyond major cities, including in southwest Indiana and smaller towns near New York City.

Also, the map shows the “exclusion zones” or “buffer zones” around major airports. This was a deal that Verizon made with the FAA. The map shows major airports New York’s LaGuardia, Chicago’s Midway and Dallas Love Field. There are pockets that are excluded in certain directions but others.
