Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires map and release date
So you want to know about Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires? Creative Assembly confirmed that it’s working on a new, big map combining all three strategy games via the official Warhammer III FAQ. The studio states that, “We will release a massive combined map that will be a huge free DLC for owners of all three games.”
We also now have more details on when Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires is coming. Creative Assembly published another developer blog post in June 2022, this time dedicated exclusively to the new mode, going into more detail as to what “phase one” would entail as well as offering a narrowed release schedule.
Total War: Warhammer III Immortal Empires will release on August 23, 2022.
Please note that in order to be given access to the big combined map – which will be released as a free Warhammer 3 DLC – you will need to own all three Total War: Warhammer games on the same storefront. So either on Steam or the Epic Games Store.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires map
The full Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires map was revealed in a developer blog on June 21, 2022. It stretches from Lustria in the west, to the eastern edge of Cathay on the coast, and from the northern Chaos Wastes down through the Old World, the Badlands, and then to the southern Chaos Wastes. The map also shows where the new ‘Sea Lanes’ will be that will enable faster travel around certain parts of the map, especially the edges.
Interestingly, there are two landmasses which currently don’t have any territories in them, which in the wider Warhammer universe are where the Ind and Khuresh factions would be located. Creative Assembly has already stated that these factions are probably never coming to Warhammer 3, and in the blog post the studio reiterates its priorities, stating “Our focus for the Total War: WARHAMMER trilogy has always been on the races of Eighth Edition (with some exceptions), and the areas where these races reside remain our immediate design priority.”
It’s highly likely these areas will get filled in eventually, but it’s possible they will be filled in with existing or last remaining 8e factions, as opposed to the nations the lands are named after. We’ll have to wait and see.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires beta
The Immortal Empires mode will initially release in a ‘beta’ state, and will remain in that state until Creative Assembly feel it’s finished.
“Immortal Empires isn’t just a “port” of content from one game to another; it’s a mountain of phenomenally change-sensitive, technical work,” the studio explains. “… We want to be realistic: it won’t be the “final,” finished product on day one—just as Mortal Empires wasn’t at its launch.”
This isn’t an ‘opt-in’ beta, so everyone who is elligable to access the new mode will be able to play the same version of the mode.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires features
As part of the Immortal Empires developer update, Creative Assembly listed the following primary new features coming to the mode:
- Access all 86 Legendary Lords from all three Total Warhammer games
- Be’Lakor is now a Legendary Lord with his own faction
- Dedicated factions for a number of the older Legendary Lords
- New starting locations for 29 older Legendary Lords
- Improved personal faction mechanics for a selection of older Legendary Lords
- A new ‘Sea Lanes’ feature, which allows movement of armies between distant lands and continents, from one side of the map to the other
- New dynamic end-game scenarios
- Revamped victory conditions
- Corruption rework. Players will have new tools for spreading (or reducing) corruption through more active usage of their armies
- 8-player multiplayer campaigns – only the host of an Immortal Empires multiplayer campaign needs to own all three games
