Stock Up on These Bottles of {Grocery Store} Bubbly
We may be stuck inside, but that doesn’t mean we have to be bored! While everyone else is stocking up on toilet paper and bottled water, you can beat the crowds by heading to the wine aisle and grab a few bubblies for the long days ahead.
Now if you know me at all, I typically have a fully stocked bar of bubbly from my favorite wineries, but there is the random occasion that I have to run to the grocery store to pick up a bottle or two. So, I rounded up my favorite and the best grocery store champagnes for you to grab when you decide to brave the lines and run in.
Best Grocery Store Champagne – Under $20
These four are the best grocery store champagne for when you want to drink bubbly. I love these for just sipping on and enjoying with a meal or on their own. They are consistent in their flavor and will never leave you disappointed. They are my go to grocery store brands because I can always count on them to be around and they pair well with just about everything.
Chandon Brut
This is constant, always giving you a consistent flavor. When I am at a restaurant and they have splits, this is typically what I order. It’s crisp as you’d expect from a brut and very easy to sip on and enjoy.
Mumm Napa Brut Prestige
Another one of my go-tos when I am out and can’t find my favorite local wineries. This is an award winning bubbly that also is very consistent in the taste you’ll get. It’s crisp, but has a bit of a vanilla aroma as well. And I really love that toasty, vanilla-y flavor.
Rosé All Day Sparkling Rosé
Super fun, right? This is actually harvested and bottled in France. I love the pink color and while it may have a strawberry aroma, I don’t find this overly sweet (and you know I do not like sweet bubbly!). I do like it chilled a bit more, so in my perfect world, I drink this at about 40 degrees.
Meiomi Sparkling Wine
Another consistent bubbly. This one has a green apple aroma. If you don’t like hints of yeast or minerals, this one isn’t for you. (If you’ve ever done a wine tasting at a winery where they give you tastes of their wines made from grapes in different soil types, you know exactly what I mean.)
Bubbles for Mimosas
Yes, I buy certain bubbly when I know that I am adding juice to it. The bubbly I have in my stock pile from wineries I’ve visited, I never add juice to. They are bubblies that I enjoy as is. So, if I am hosting a mimosa party, it’s off to buy some of the least expensive grocery store champagnes for mimosas. They tend to be on the drier side so the flavors balance out a bit when you add the sweet juice to it.
Korbel Brut
Who else stated drinking bubbly with Korbel? When you’re in a pinch and in a hurry, this is easy to grab. Korbel suggests that this has crisp flavors of orange, lime, vanilla and a hint of strawberry. This makes for a perfect traditional mimosa (with OJ) or strawberry mimosas.
Barefoot Brut Cuvee
This is a dry bubbly, which I always recommend when you’re going to add juice to it. Barefoot actually suggests that you pair this with fruit…hence mimosa!
LaMarca Prosecco
LaMarca splits are the ones I drink when I am in the main cabin of Alaska Airlines and you know me, I barely like the juice when I actually order a mimosa, so I drink it (practically) right from the bottle. “The palate is fresh and clean, with flavors of ripe lemon, green apple and grapefruit framed by mineral undertones” – from the LaMarca website. If I am adding juice, I typically will add grapefruit juice to create my favorite type of mimosa.
Now the best part of a mimosa bar is all the fun you can have with them.
Fun Fact….I NEVER and I do mean NEVER drink a traditional mimosa. I hate (yes that is a strong word) OJ and can taste even the smallest amount in my drinks.
Create Your Own Mimosa
When I create a mimosa bar I may or may not even have OJ….I like to grab other juices and fresh fruits that people might not expect. Anything that sparks my fancy is what I tend to pair with the best grocery store champagne.
My go-to juice
is Simply Juice.
These are my go-to flavors that tend to keep people on their toes:
- Grapefruit
- Watermelon
- Peach
- Cranberry
- Lemonade
- Strawberry Lemonade
Fun Twists
I like to take a super fun ice cube tray, like this diamond shaped one, and I freeze the juice. My favorite way to create and enjoy a mimosa is to add a few (3-5) frozen juice cubes and then top it off with bubbly.
Obviously, I don’t like a lot of juice in my mimosa. 😉 A typical mimosa is a 50/50 split of juice and bubbly. If that’s more your kind of mimosa, then use the frozen juice cubes to keep it chilled while you enjoy it.
I do love real fruit mimosas as well, like strawberry. Of course, you can take some fresh strawberries, put them on the rim of a champagne flute and add bubbly. You can also add fresh fruit and freeze in juice in deeper ice cube trays as well.
But here is my tip for creating a “fancier” strawberry mimosa. You can checkout the full recipe in this post.
Take fresh, frozen strawberries and lime juice and toss those in the blender. If you like it a bit sweeter, add a splash of strawberry lemonade and blend.
Pour into a flute glass and top with bubbly. This is why we have a whole separate category on our list of best grocery store champagnes for mimosa champagnes, you need something that is going to create balance and be enjoyable for a wide variety of pallets.
Now, of course, you can take this mixture and freeze it as well and add it to the ice cube selection for your guests to create their own mimosa.
I’d love to hear your suggestions for other flavors of mimosas, so be sure you send them to me over on the Bubbly Side of Life page on Instagram.
Popular Picks
Lastly, are my popular picks of bubbly to stock while you’re stuck inside. Do a poll and many, many people will tell you how much they love these. So, it’s always a “safe” pick.
LaMarca Prosecco
I follow and know many people who absolutely love LaMarca and it is their go-to to celebrate any occasion. So it needs to be included in this list.
Ménage à Trois Prosecco
I know many people who Ménage à Trois is their go to wine and they absolutely stockpile it. You’ll taste some citrus and green apple in this crisp sparkling wine.
The Aftertaste
This list of the best grocery store champagnes is a great place to start if you are standing in the aisle at the grocery store trying to decide. There were days that I used to pick bottles based off the label alone (which is fun and I definitely recommend it as you might find a new favorite), but if you are looking for a bottle to enjoy and not gamble on, then start here.
The best part of this business, as I have said many times before, is you can’t be wrong. The first 4 bottles for me are very consistent…you know what you’re going to get and that’s great because if you try them and love them, you know what to pick from now on, if you don’t love them, then you know that as well.
So be sure to share your favorites with me and I’ll keep updating this list…let’s have fun tasting bubbles…CHEERS!
