Story Of Seasons: Friends Of Mineral Town Tips

Vegetales

There isn’t a huge difference between this new incarnation of Harvest Moon and its predecessors, but there are definitely some meaningful improvements that make things less miserable. For instance, players can walk through vined plots with trellises (like tomatoes and cucumbers), your house cabinet accommodates 999-unit stacks of items. But for new players, some things might be a little confusing at first, especially if this is your first Harvest Moon game. So, here are some Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town tips to help you get through the early stages.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town tips

One bag of seeds covers 9 tiles

One single bag of seeds will cover 3×3 tiles of tilled soil – that is, you’ll need to prepare 9 tilled tiles before you start sowing. In my first spring, I went broke buying 9 bags of cucumber seeds, thinking that 1 bag represented a single seed for each tile. Boy, was I wrong? (Bonus tip: if you suffer from Joycon drift, be extra careful when aligning the sowing area to the 9 tilled tiles.)

Air hits will consume stamina

Smashing rocks in the cave can get really old really fast, especially when there’s not much else going on besides hammering and hoeing. Half the time, most people just spam actions without really paying attention – a mistake that will absolutely mess you up in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. “Air hits” that miss the targeted tile will consume stamina. If you use the wrong tool for a task, that consumes stamina, too.

Get nature sprites early and often

Mercifully, you don’t need to complete quests to access your favourite indentured helpers – Mineral Town’s nature sprites can be found in a hut behind the church, living their best Seven Dwarves-style lives in colour-coordinated elf outfits. All you have to do is bring gifts – most of them seem to like honey and fruit – to become friends. Once you’re friends, you can ask them to do chores for you, like watering crops or caring for your animals. If you’re determined to help the nature sprites improve at their chores, play with them to level them up.

Plan your tool upgrades

In addition to getting ores for upgrades, you need to use your tools to level them up. Normally, if you’re just upgrading a tool one level up, Saibara takes one full day to work on upgrading your tools: if you bring him your axe on a Monday, it won’t be ready until Wednesday. Like previous Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games, the Forge will be closed while he’s working. If you’re upgrading a tool by multiple levels, Saibara will need more time, which means you won’t be able to access the Forge for several days. The good news is that he’s open on weekends. Pro tip: put multiple nature sprites on watering duty while you’re upgrading your watering can.

Upgrade your house

If you’re into the cooking aspect of farm sims, upgrade your house as soon as possible to get the kitchen and fridge, if only so you can store food items at home. Yes, you have to buy your own fridge. No, you can’t keep food items in the cabinet. Cooking also requires equipment, which you can get at the General Store.
