Steak Tips are one of the easiest grilling recipes to make at home. Sirloin steak tips are grilled to perfection and slathered in a tasty garlic and herb butter and topped with toasted garlic chips. A quick dinner that is great for entertaining guests.
Garlic Butter Steaks are one of our favorite meals on the grill but I have to say that these steak tips are a close second. The steak is tender, juicy and delicious and the addition of crunchy garlic chips takes this meal to over the top amazing.

What are Steak Tips?
Steak tips are cut from the ends of the sirloin, flap, round or even tenderloin. They are a great option for grilling and cook up tender and flavorful. A budget friendly option to add to the dinner menu.
Ingredients for Garlic Butter Steak Tips:
- Steak Tips
- Olive Oil
- Steak Rub: Brown Sugar, Granulated Garlic, Chili Powder, Dried Thyme, Smoked Paprika, Kosher Salt, Pepper
- Butter
- Fresh Garlic
- Ground Rosemary
- Kosher Salt
- Black Pepper
- Fresh Parsley

How to Grill Garlic Butter Steak Tips:
- Place steak tips on a baking sheet and pat dry with paper towels.
- Spray or brush with olive oil and sprinkle with dry rub. Toss to coat all sides.
- Use a mandoline slicer or sharp knife to shave garlic cloves into thin slices.
- Melt butter in a small skillet over low heat.
- Add garlic slices and cook, stirring often until garlic chips are lightly browned. Do not leave garlic unattended, it can burn really quickly. Remove from heat and spoon garlic chips to a bowl and set aside.
- Stir ground rosemary, salt and pepper into remaining butter and set aside.
- Prepare a grill fire to about 400° with hickory or pecan chunks for smoke flavor.
- Cook steak tips over indirect fire with the grill closed about 3 minutes.
- Turn steaks and continue to cook another 3- 5 minutes or until desired doneness is reached. We pulled ours at about 130°. A digital meat thermometer is the best way to cook steak to the ideal temperature.
INTERNAL TEMPERATURES FOR STEAK TIPS:
- Rare: 130°
- Medium Rare: 140°
- Medium: 155°
- Remove from grill to a serving platter.
- Brush steak tips with garlic butter.
- Garnish with parsley and top with garlic chips.
- Serve immediately.
We served our steak tips with air fryer roasted potatoes, grilled corn on the cob or grilled asparagus are also great options. We also love these garlic butter potatoes that are made in a foil packet on the grill.
How to Store and Reheat:
- Store leftover steak in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
- Reheat in a skillet with butter over medium heat, stirring until heated through. Cut steak into bite size pieces to heat up quicker.

Ingredients
- 3 pounds steak tips
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ cup Steak Rub
- ½ cup butter
- 4 large garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground rosemary
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- fresh parsley, optional garnish
Instructions
- Pat steak tips dry and place on a baking sheet. Spray or brush with olive oil and sprinkle with steak rub.
- Toss to coat both sides.
- Thinly slice garlic cloves using a mandoline or sharp knife.
- Melt butter in a small skillet over low heat. Add garlic slices and cook, stirring often. Do not step away from the garlic, it will burn easily. Cook until lightly brown and toasted.
- Remove from heat and place garlic slices in a bowl.
- Add rosemary, salt and pepper to butter and mix to combine.
- Prepare a grill fire to about 400°. Hickory or pecan chunks work well for smoke flavor.
- Cook steak tips over indirect heat with the grill closed about 3 minutes.
- Flip steak and continue to cook another 3- 5 minutes until desired doneness is reached. We pulled ours at about 130°.
- Remove to a serving plate.
- Brush with garlic and herb butter.
- Top with parsley and garlic chips and serve immediately.
