SPACE COFFEE – Hidden Industrial-Style Cafe Opens At Geylang With Brunch And Bakes – DanielFoodDiary.com

SPACE COFFEE is a new hidden 45-seater cafe space with industrial vibes found at Geylang (note: not related to Space Cafe in Johor Bahru).

Yes, there is finally another cafe opening at Geylang – known for a certain reputation and is lined with many Chinese eateries and supper places.

If you are heading over to Geylang and Sims Avenue area, some cafes you may want to check out include Fujiwara Tofu Shop (The Initial D Cafe), Knock Knock Café, The Wonderment Collective, and Teahouse 1973.

Located along one of the shophouses along Geylang Road (opposite the famous JB Ah Meng, SPACE COFFEE is pretty spacious, well-designed to looked like an enclave.

From the cemented walls and floors to muted tones used in their furnitures, the space is equipped with bespoke lighting to create a warm and cosy ambience.

The cafe is currently in its soft-launch phase with a limited menu of 6 dishes, mostly vegan.

Think B.F.C Salad ($14), Vege Brekkie ($24), Space C.C ($15), Gua ($16), Vege-Mite Toast ($12) and Brioche French ($13).

The Space C.C ($15) caught my attention, a $15 fried carrot cake dish, topped with egg, prawns, chai-po (preserved radish), coriander and house-made sambal sauce.

While it is heartening to see our local dish elevated and served in a cafe, the price tag do deters many people as one can easily get it elsewhere at a fraction of the price.

The sambal sauce was ‘shiok’ though, with a delightful spicy kick balanced by the other sauces.

Texture-wise, there was a good mix of chewy textures of the carrot cake, fluffy-ness of the egg and crunchiness of the chai-po.

The Brioche French ($13) came in 2 huge slabs of fluffy brioche, slathered with chocolate and hazelnut sauce, with gula melaka sauce drizzled on its side.

No doubt that the brioche was soft and chewy, with a pleasant egginess within, but do get someone to share this the flavours get somewhat rich after a few bites.

Perhaps some fruits would add a more refreshing touch to it, or a scoop of ice cream to mix things up.

If you are looking for a light bite, pastries are supplied by Cloud at Duxton, with a selection of Banana Cake ($5), Shio Pan ($5), Coconut Bun ($4) and Chocolate Bun ($5.50).

A cup of Espresso starts from $4, with alternatives such as Macchiato ($4), Long Black ($5), Piccolo Latte ($5.50), White ($6), Mocha ($7) and Matcha Latte ($7).

My cup of Flat White ($6) had a medium body, smooth and robust with chocolatey notes.

A conducive space for a brunch gathering, I believed SPACE COFFEE could be a good place to check out if you are in the Geylang vicinity.
