Collect all the right documents in advance A PR application requires a lot of documentation and some of these documents can be a pain to find – do you still have your university transcripts from years ago? The documents required to depend on your Singapore Permanent Resident eligibility. As a foreigner, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence if you are a/an:

• Spouse of a Singapore citizen (SC) or Singapore permanent resident (PR)

• Unmarried child aged below 21 born within the context of legal marriage to, or have been legally adopted by, an SC or PR

• Aged parent of an SC

• Holder of an Employment Pass or S Pass (the most common route)

• Students studying in Singapore

• Foreign investor in Singapore

Once you have begun the online Singapore PR application, you have to submit everything in 7 days. Make sure the scanned copies of documents are clear with no information cut off.

Tip 2

Include your whole family in the PR application It is possible to submit an individual PR application but for a maximum chance of success, you should include all family members in the application. This shows your long-term commitment to Singapore. If you include male children in your PR application and your Singapore PR application is successful, they will be enrolled in mandatory national service at age 18 as an immigration requirement.  Purposefully excluding male children to avoid national service responsibilities will lower your chances of success of becoming PR in Singapore.
