Reddit – Dive into anything
I’m a single malt Scotch enthusiast (Islays in particular), but for some reason, I seem to have cheap taste in bourbon and Canadian for my casual sippers, to be poured over ice. I tend to have bad luck when I buy something based on word-of-mouth recommendations or shelf appeal.
What are some of your favorite cheap Canadian whiskies and why do you like them? I’m on a budget at the moment and I need some recommendations.
Some that I’ve tried:
Black Velvet 8yr – Decent, gentle, buttery and nutty. I like it.
Windsor – Pretty decent, actually. Nice and carmely.
Canadian Premium – Not bad, but less interesting than the previous two.
Canadian Hunter – Liked it at first, grew to hate it.
Hunter Rye – Not much better than the standard.
Ellington Reserve – YUCK.
Canadian Leaf – Tastes like someone took some cheap vodka and soaked a charred oak dowel rod in it.
Canadian Mist – It’s okay, not great.
Some that I’m looking at trying:
Lord Calvert
Canadian Gold
Thoughts or opinions? Also, what are your favorite things to mix with Canadian whisky?
Thanks
