Is the Coolest Cafe Racer in the World, Electric? – SocialDad.ca
Growing up in the English countryside, I knew that freedom only really came from a car or a motorcycle. I remember my friend, Geoffrey was given a beaten-up 50cc Yamaha FS1 in a beautiful mixture of red paint and rusty holes, but to us, as we sped around the fields, it was freedom. The wind in our faces as we dodged the cows and flicked up what they left behind. It was messy but there was nothing like it.
That was the only motorcycle I ever rode but the feeling never left. Those formative memories became dreams and as I grew older, they became fantasies. The vision of a Cafe Racer bike parked outside somewhere too cool for me to have reason to visit, the comfort of a weather-worn saddle, the feeling of flight as the engine pulls forward and onto the next stop. These images, existing when I’m deep in thought, full of grain like a faded photograph found in an album from a great uncle you never really knew. What it must have been like to live like that.
Back to the second half of 2021 and we’re trying to figure out how to return to our offices after a year of feeling locked in. Freedom has once again become something to achieve. I know that if there’s a way of avoiding commuting by packed bus or train brimming with sweaty office workers, then I’m going to find it.
Electric people movers have become the new solution for school kids to suited execs and rightly so. With easy plug-in charging, portability, and traffic-beating sidewalk sailing, eScooters and battery-enhanced pushbikes are taking the effort out of the morning rush and evening trudge.
