if we're together, we can laugh — The ‘Flower Smeraldo’ blog has changed

What is this blog and could these changes possibly mean? Was it Jimin or was it Jin ? This is what I’m going to try to explain and theorize about.

The Smeraldo flower is an element that has been part of the BU since 2017. It started with the creation of a mysterious blog that seemed to be made by someone owning a flower shop. The florist opened their blog by advertising the arrival in the shop of a new flower called “Smeraldo”. Then they said that the shop would open in September. (LY:Her dropped that month)

The blog was found when Jin tweeted this photo on Augsut 9th :

However, the flower shop and this particular flower were confirmed to be connected with the BU when the blog posted about receiving an order from a “young man”, who turned out to be Seokjin.

When the hightlight reels came out, fans noticed that Seokjin was holding these flowers during this tragic scene :

Seokjin had in fact ordered the flowers to give them to the girl. But when she was about to join him, she was hit by the very same flower truck that had brought him the flowers. This was on August 30th. The blog closed a few days later.

In 2018, it was reopened and the same posts were published again, with a few changes. You can find more info about those changes here. An interesting detail however is that in the second post (2018 version), the florist said that the flower shop would open in late August, which is when LY:Answer was released. Seokjin also doesn’t appear in the blog posts in 2018. This means he does not order the flowers that year.

A few days ago, on July 10th 2020, the blog was reopened and the first post was published again, similar than the other two versions. Once again, in the second post the flower shop was announced to be opening in late August.

Today, the Flower Smeraldo blog posted again. This was their 3rd post since the blog reopened and it is completely brand new!

Here is the translation of that post in English (many thanks to @ bomharu1230 on Twitter)

There are a few elements to note :

– There was a typhoon, and the damages mean that the construction of the flower shop has been altered

– The florist saw a young man standing outside of the flower shop, in the rain, holding an umbrella

– The young man just stood and looked towards something that wasn’t there, then left after 10 minutes. The florist couldn’t read his emotions.

When the post was published, a lot of people immediately thought about Jimin, because of this scene from the highlight reels :

Here we clearly see a young man standing in the rain holding an umbrella.

Meanwhile, yesterday Jimin posted this on Weverse, which can seem somewhat close to how the florist was feeling about watching the rain fall.

Now this is where I’m going to try to explain why I think it might not have been Jimin, or at least not in correlation to the scene from the highlight reels :

Here is the note that matches this scene. Jimin was in the rain holding an umbrella because he went after Hoseok and their female friend. This is after Jimin accidentally made the girl have a bad fall during a dance practice. As you can see, the note is from July 4th (Y22). The blog post was posted on July 15th (could be events from July 14th too but probably not before that).

The description of the scenes also do not match. In the highlight reels, Jimin is rushing to get to Hoseok and their friend. In the new blog post, the young man is simply standing near the flower shop looking towards something for 10 minutes.

(Also yes it was raining very heavily during that scene in the highlight reel but it doesn’t seem like there was a typhoon).

Keep in mind too that Jimin in the storyline doesn’t seem to know about the flower shop and hasn’t shown any interest in buying flowers so far.

It could still be him but I don’t see why he would be outside of the flower shop for ten minutes.

Here is why I think that it is more likely that the young man was Seokjin.

The first obvious idea is that Seokjin does in fact know about the flower shop and has shown interest in buying the Smeraldo flowers specifically (to give them to his girl). So far he is the ONLY character who has been shown to know or pay attention to the flower shop.

As we know, the storyline follows Seokjin going back in time and trying to prevent tragic events from happening.

We already know that in the blog posts from 2017, Seokjin visited the flower shop and ordered the Smeraldo flowers. The flower delivery is what caused his crush to die, as she was hit by that truck. It means that the timeline with the highlight reels is the timeline told on the blog in 2017.

But in 2018 already, the blog posts about the flower shop opening were NOT mentionning Seokjin at all. This mean that there is at least one timeline where Seokjin did not buy Smeraldo flowers for the girl.

The blog posts changing (a brand new one) to me means that this is another timeline.

This is why it is very much possible that Seokjin would go near the flower shop (as he knows where it is) but not interact with the florist (because he does not want to buy flowers).

In the Epiphany MV, there is also this scene of Seokjin standing there in the rain (without any umbrella).

This scene here, in the rain, is when he realises that he should love himself and that it is the most important thing.

Now in this new blog post, the young man stands in the rain with an umbrella. My interpretation of this includes how an umbrella can symbolize shelter or protection, so Seokjin might now have grown to protect and take care of himself as an act of self-love.
