Fix Network Security Key Mismatch Error
This error occurs when you try to connect to a Wi-Fi connection. There is a possibility that you recently changed the security type like WPA, WPA2, WEP, etc. Changing the security may be causing this error, so you cannot connect to the network you used to.
Fix Network Security Key Mismatch Error By Restarting
This is the thing that every one of us does when facing a connectivity issue. This is the first step that very often fixes whatever error you may be facing. If the router cannot update the security change automatically, you may get this error. Restart your router and see if it fixes the problem.
I suggest restarting your PC as well while your router connects.
Forget Network
If the restarting didn’t fix the issue, you could always forget the network you are trying to connect to and then connect again by adding the password details. There are different ways you can do this on Windows 11, but I will show you the fastest way to Forget a network and then sign in again.
Step-1: On your desktop taskbar, click on the Wifi icon. (You will notice that unlike Windows 10, you can no longer click on the icon alone. You will be selecting two other icons with it as well.)
Step-2: When the flyout opens, click on the Wifi icon.
Step-3: Right-click on the Wifi connection you are trying to connect to and select Forget.
Step-4: Now follow steps 1-2 again.
Step-5: Click on the connection you want to connect and select Connect.
Step-6: Enter the Security key and click Next.
Fix Network Security Key Mismatch Error by Resetting TCP/IP
You may have to release and renew TCP/IP to fix the issue. Before doing this, make sure you create a system restore point.
Step-1: Click on the search icon on the taskbar and type cmd.
Step-2: Select Run as administrator.
Step-3: You will be asked, do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? Select Yes.
Step-4: Type the following command and press Enter:
netsh int ip reset
This will reset the IP
Bonus:
If you want a log file, as well as an IP, reset, use the following command and press Enter:
netsh int ip reset resettcpip.txt
If you use an IPv4, use this command and press Enter:
netsh int ipv4 reset
If you use IPv6, use the following command and press Enter:
netsh int ipv6 reset
Reset Network Settings
You can reset your network settings as well:
- Click on the Windows icon on the taskbar and click on the Settings cog.
- Click on Network & Internet in the left pane.
- Select Advanced Network Settings option.
- Click on the Network Reset option.
- Select Reset Now.
- Click on Yes for confirmation.
Revert Router Settings
If this error was caused after you changed the security settings, I suggest going back to your original settings. This can also resolve the error if none of the above-mentioned methods worked.
I hope this helps, and the network security key mismatch error was resolved. If you tried some other method, let us know in the comments below.
