How to Download & Install OneDrive for Business Next Generation Sync Client Tool for Office 365

Microsoft has released a new version of OneDrive for Business which is called OneDrive for Business Next Generation Sync Client.

The OneDrive for Business Next Generation Sync Client lets you connect and sync files from your OneDrive for Business. You can add a work or school account to the new OneDrive for Business sync client and sync all your files to your computer.

What I most like in this new version is increased sync limit for your files and folders. In previous version OneDrive for Business allows you to sync 20,000 files (files+folders) for your ODB Documents library and 5,000 files for Sharepoint Team sites documents library. But this new tool next generation tool allows you to sync 30 million documents per library and 10 GB file size limit for each file. However, current, this new sync client doesn’t support sharing SharePoint Online site libraries. It can only sync files stored in OneDrive for Business library.

How to Download & Install OneDrive for Business Next Generation Sync Client Tool:

  1. Download OneDrive for Business. Run OneDriveSetup.exe and complete the installation. Once installed, Exit OneDrive from system tray to close it.
  2. Download Deployment Package. Extract it and you will see two registry files in it: DefaultToBusinessFRE.reg & EnableAddAccounts.reg. Double click both files one by one and click Yes to add these keys into Registry.
  3. Open Microsoft OneDrive from start menu and start adding your work account.
