Documents in tabs option for Microsoft Office

There’s a useful and long-standing Office add-on for people who have many documents open at once and prefer them to appear in tabs (like web pages) instead of separate windows.

Office Tab switches Microsoft Office for Windows from the usual ‘one document per windows’ view to ‘many documents in a single window’.

This can be a more convenient way to view and move between documents.  In addition, overall window size and location stays the same for each document instead of different positions and sizes that can be harder for the eye to track.

Office Tabs also has some nice tricks that are either missing or dropped from Microsoft Office:

Rename is a long requested feature in Office.  Office Tabs adds it for all documents (modern Office limits Rename to cloud-stored documents). It’s way faster than ‘Save As’ to a new file name then deleting the original document.

The document tabs can be reordered with drag n drop, as you’d expect.  The tab labels can be changed to show whole document name, fixed or automatic.

There’s a 30-day free trial available.  Word, Excel and Powerpoint for Microsoft 365/Office 365 for Windows plus Office 2021, 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007 and 2003 – 32 or 64-bit.

Office Tab is US$39 while Office Tab Enterprise (adds Access, Project and Visio) is US$49.
