Croatia Mourns Defeat in World Cup

In a dramatic match on Sunday night in Moscow, France won 4-2.

After playing three extra times in a row, Croats just couldn’t summon up the energy to clinch the World Cup final.

Despite the defeat, there is little disappointment in Croatia. Most commentators – and people – regard recent events such as the sensational win over England in the semi-final, as the greatest success in the entire history of Croatian football, saying people should feel very proud of their national team.

Also, Luka Modric, Croatian captain Luka Modic won the 2018 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball.

A large number of fans cheered themselves hoarse at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. Support for the Croatian team came from their homeland, as well as from fans outside the country,  in countries with large Croat communities.

Some of them reiterated that, before the tournament Croatia wasn’t ranked among the major pretenders to the title, and that it had gone on to achieve results that no one had expected before.

Thousands of people are expected to gather on Monday on the main Zagreb square for a welcoming party for the Croatian football team.
