Blog Posts Slider – Puro

Polestar offers a beautiful posts slider for your blog page. View a demo of the blog posts slider here. Once the below steps have been taken, the slider will appear at the top of your assigned blog page or home page if set to display latests posts. The posts slider makes use of Jetpack Featured Content. The advantage of this is that if you switch to another theme that also uses Jetpack Featured Content, your featured posts will be automatically used in the new theme’s slider or similar featured posts area.

Jetpack Featured Content
Featured Content allows users to spotlight their posts and have them uniquely displayed by a theme. The content is intended to be displayed on a blog’s front page; by using the module consistently in this manner, users are given a reliable Featured Content experience on which they can rely even when switching themes.

Required Plugin

If you don’t already have Jetpack installed and activated, go to PluginsAdd New, search for and install Jetpack. Once activated, go to Jetpack in your main WordPress menu and connect to your WordPress.com account as instructed.

If this is your first time activating Jetpack we recommend going to JetpackSettings and deactivating the modules you don’t need at the moment.

Setup the Slider

Navigate to AppearanceCustomizeFeatured Content. In the first field you can enter a custom tag name. Each post with the tag assigned to it will be displayed as featured content in your blog page posts slider.

Next, you’ll find two settings:

Do not display tag in post details and tag clouds.
Enable if you don’t want the featured tag to be displayed in post meta and tag clouds.

Also display tagged posts outside the Featured Content area.
Enable if you’d like your featured posts to be displayed in the normal blog post feed below the slider. In this case, the Featured Content Area is the posts slider.

Choose Slider Posts to Display

To select the featured content, the posts to be displayed in the slider, go to Posts in your main WordPress menu, edit a post you’d like to feature, and locate the Tags meta box in the right column. Enter the tag name you previously entered in the Customizer setting. For example, if the tag name you used was featured, add that tag name to the post list of tags. Repeat this process for all of the posts you’d like to have featured in the posts slider.

Each post featured will need a featured image added.
