Beginner’s Guide for Toca Life World – How to Create Your Own Fun in the Sandbox | BlueStacks
Toca Life World is quite an interesting game due to its gameplay style, where the devs don’t outright hold the player’s hand and teach them all there is to do, but rather simply provide a ton of different characters, locations, and objects, and sets players free to do their own thing and create their own brand of fun. In other words, the game is, in a quite literal sense, a sandbox in its purest form, and sticks to its guns throughout the entirety of its gameplay. However, this also means that, for the players that are new to the game, or the genre, finding anything interesting to do can be a challenge, particularly since there are no tutorials or guides of any kind.
If you’re anything like us, you probably expect to get a semblance of guidance in Toca Life World, only to get disappointed by the fact that there basically isn’t any. Luckily, we’ve prepared this Toca Life World beginner’s guide as an entry point to help you get started in understanding the game’s premise, and also how to dive in and start creating your own fun scenarios and situations with all the elements that the game provides.
What is Toca Life World?
Before jumping into how to play the game, it’s important to understand that Toca Life World is a pure sandbox experience and, as you’ve probably seen by now, there is nothing in the game to guide you nor to direct you on how to play it. Luckily, the game is also deceptively simple, as beneath its different elements, locations, characters, and interactable items, the core gameplay is actually quite straightforward: Gamers are simply supposed to go wherever they want within the locations that the games provide, and once there, they can interact with every single element and character within the location, and create their own fun as they observe all the different interactions and effects.
Whether you visit the Department Store and browse their selection of goods; go to the Hairdresser and have fun experimenting with different hairstyles and products, or even go to the Theater and create your own fun scenes using the actors, instruments, and other objects that are provided backstage, the world is quite literally your oyster here.
Creating Your Own Actors
As you can probably see by now, Toca Life World is more about creating your own scenarios and scenes, and playing them out in your mind and in-game, rather than playing with any predefined systems like combat, exploration, or any of the other typical elements that you’d expect to find in any other game. And we know that we’re sounding like a broken record for saying this, but this makes this game the quintessential sandbox in all its aspects.
In order to create your own scenes, however, you’re going to need as many actors as you can get. And while each location has its own share of characters standing around, you will likely have to bring more of them to the mix. Luckily, you can always access a catalog of premade characters by clicking on the yellow character button on the bottom right of the screen whenever you’re exploring a location. This will spawn a wide variety of actors that you can drag and drop anywhere you like. You can also click on the different tabs in the catalog to browse through other types of actors.
Additionally, you can also create your own characters in Toca Life World by clicking on the blue “+” button on the lower left of the catalog. This will take you to the creator menu where you can create up to three different characters for free. The character creator is actually quite robust, allowing you to customize virtually any aspect of your actors: from their age and every single facial feature to their hair, clothing, and accessories. And once you’re done, you can simply navigate to the created characters tab in the character menu, and drag and drop your own creations to the scene.

It’s worth pointing out here that players who decide to purchase the full character creator feature will get an extra 30 character slots to mess around with, as well as over 1,000 new customization items. In this sense, if you want to get the most out of your created characters, then you might want to consider purchasing this feature.
Interacting with the Environment and Creating Your Own Scenes
Now that we know how to create our own unique characters and how to add new actors to the scenes, let’s go ahead and talk about the things that we can actually do in Toca Life World.
The basic gameplay in this game is quite straightforward. Once you login, you’ll be taken to a world map where you can select the building you want to visit by clicking on it. If you play Toca Life World on PC with BlueStacks, you can get the absolute best view of the city and characters at all times, since you’ll be playing it on your large computer monitor.
Once you’ve chosen a building to visit, you’ll be taken inside, where you’ll find tons of different objects and characters to play with. These items can be either on shelves, on display, or just lying around the place. The only direct interaction you can have with them is by clicking and dragging them anywhere, and depending on where you drop them, you might get different effects. For instance, you can drop small objects in the hands of the characters to have them carry them. Alternatively, you can drop edible products directly on the character’s mouths for them to eat or drink.
There are some objects in certain stages that can be interacted with directly, simply by clicking on them. These objects include things like lightbulbs or other light fixtures, which can be toggled on and off freely. There are also other special objects exclusive to some buildings, which have special uses. For instance, the hairdresser’s chair in the stylist can be used for selecting different hairstyles and, if there’s a character sitting on the chair, you can even change their hairdo with this object.
Your creativity is the limit for the things you can achieve in Toca Life World. For this reason, we suggest simply going out and experimenting with everything that you can find, in order to discover everything that you can do. Feel free to share any interesting findings in the comments below!
