Why Millennials Can’t Wait For the Toyota Tacoma Electric Pickup Truck

A recent poll conducted by Autolist shows that millennials across the nation are more than excited for the Toyota Tacoma EV to be introduced onto the market. The crazy thing is that Toyota has not discussed any of the truck’s details, or even if they plan on introducing one to the public within the next couple of years. Without a doubt, the Toyota Tacoma is the leading mid-sized pickup truck in North America. It has been for a number of years, so it is a given that they will follow suit with the rest of the truck industry by introducing a Tacoma EV. Still, since the company has not even put one foot into the electric pickup truck market, it may be a few years before a Toyota electric truck comes up for sale.

If the rumors flying around hold to be accurate, it is more than a possibility that the world will be introduced to the new electric Tacoma soon, even though the executives at Toyota have been balking at changing a truck that has been setting record sales amounts for them. But times are changing, and if the company wants to stay in the game, it will have to shift gears and produce a truck that aligns with the demand of millennial consumers. Here’s why a Toyota EV truck would be such a highly sought-after truck and see what it could bring to the table of the EV truck wars.

The Toyota Tacoma EV Is Not Even A Reality So Far

Toyota has not given an official launch date for a Toyota EV launch, but some things are circulating suggesting that a Toyota electric truck will follow the 2024 Toyota Tacoma launch. This is not to say that Toyota may not spring it on the public sooner, but by all accounts, it is slated to be available for the model 2024 year. One of the main reasons this idea is thought of can be traced to a group of Tacoma fans in Brazil. They spotted a design patent that Toyota has filed for, but the company chose not to reveal the truck’s name that will be used as the base model. The company is withholding that little tidbit from the public until a later date, but since this information has been affirmed by Fox News, there will at least be some form of Toyota EV placed up for sale in parts of the world.

People think the new electric truck will be a Tacoma because the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been seen driving around town while the engineers run it through a series of tests. Due to the original designs filed with the patent request, and the likeness of the new Tacoma to those plans, it is a pretty good guess that the electric truck will be for sale at the end of this year for the 2024 model lineup.

Will The Next New Toyota Tacoma Be An EV?

It is hard to change the design of a vehicle from an internal combustion engine model straight to an electric version without having some huge issues, which is why companies have found it a better idea to go to a hybrid model first. The hybrid model is a version of both that will give the company a stepping stone to move from the old-school power plants to the new electrically charged motors that are taking over the car and truck industries. The 2024 test models will again need to be examined to understand why this concept is being contemplated. Standing in front of the new truck, it becomes evident that the grill is designed to allow an engine’s cooling under the hood, which suggests that there will still be an internal combustion engine. So, for all intents and purposes, if the 2024 Toyota Tacoma does come off the production lines in the style and design of the new patent, the next Tacoma will be more of a hybrid than an all-out electric truck, at least for now.

How Much Will The Toyota Tacoma EV Cost?

Since the only word from Toyota officials is that they have plans for an electric Toyota truck in the near future, it is hard to say how high the company will price it. The other problem with discovering the price of a 2024 Tacoma is that the company has not even let any of its plans slip out for the new model. The safest bet is to go off the 2023 model year sticker prices and understand that the cost will likely increase for the following year. Still, these numbers will at least give a good idea of the cost of a Toyota Tacoma EV.

For the base model this year, the buyer can expect to pay around $28,000, with options that can be chosen that will increase the end cost. The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro sells for just over $47,000 without additional features. There are trim levels in between these that can be chosen for the ’23 model year, but there is no way to actually know if the same ones will be offered for ’24 or if there may even be some more added into the mix. The one thing that is known is that every truck offered will have the choice of various engine sizes, which is expected to also include a hybrid version of the Tacoma. Until the final reveal, these numbers are just based on an educated guess. Stay tuned because as new information is given, we will pass it on to all our readers.
