Tip 1. Use a BRD template

Include cover page, headlines for each section and a description. This will save time and ensures quality.
Tip 2. Write with a business user in mind
Always write a BRD keeping the business user in mind. This will help you understand and define the requirements in the way the client wants. Try to provide an overview of the business requirments.
Tip 3. Use the appropriate words
One of the most important words is ‘Shall’. Try to use it whenever possible. It is more definite than ‘will’, ‘would’, ‘should’ or ‘can’.
For example: “The system shall allow a user to save their current session in the system”
Tip4. Do a proper proof reading
- Do a complete proof reading before handing the BRD to others to review.
- Ensure the diagrams are accurate.
- Check spelling and grammar
- Check the formating is OK
- Check names of people and systems are correct
Tip 5 Include diagrams
The most effective way of explaining a concept is to include a diagram. This will help the reader understand the requirements easily. Always break up the document in shorter sentences which makes it easier to read.
