Growing up I had aspirations of being a magazine beauty editor. I absolutely loved diving into the pages of Y&M, Teen, and Allure magazines to read the latest and greatest beauty buzz, discover new brands, and see what editors were recommending that month. My only disappointment was that products received only a quick line or two at most of information, even then most products were only included in roundups—there were no full reviews. During my college years (and when I had my own income), I was able to seek out product reviews on Makeup Alley and MakeupTalk (anyone else on these daily?!), both of which had the lowdown on all things beauty. These days, reviews are a plenty which is great. As consumers we are making more informed decisions of the products we use—caring not only what we put in our bodies but what we put on them as well.

I started my own blog to live out my magazine editor dreams and to offer readers my curated beauty recommendations as well as a closer and honest dive into a variety of brands and products. One of the brands I want to share with you, my reader, is Herbivore Botanicals, a non-toxic (and cruelty-free!) natural plant-based indie skincare line that has been making waves in the beauty community. Herbivore Botanicals was started back in 2011 by a husband & wife duo in their Seattle kitchen making soap using plant-based ingredients and selling on Etsy and at local farmer’s markets. Flash forward five years later and the brand is now being sold in Sephora, Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom.com and more… how amazing is that? Since it’s soapy beginnings, the brand has since added moisturizers, body polishes, masks, facial oils and more to their product lineup. All products are cruelty-free, plant-based and made with natural and unique ingredients, such as floral extracts, indigo powder, fruit enzymes and more.

Working in the beauty industry I am a sucker for good packaging and Herbivore’s sleek and minimalist packaging is one of my favorites. I’m a total fan of the less is more approach and this line encompasses that not only with their ingredients but with the packaging as well. The glass jars with white lids and caps and simplistic design makes this line so drool-worthy for Instagrammers and Pinners alike.

Pink Cloud Rosewater Moisture Crème

I’m pretty picky when it comes to moisturizers. Since my skin is on the dry side I need moisturizing creams that are hydrating but without being greasy. The Herbivore Pink Cloud Rosewater Moisture Crème definitely delivers on both these aspects. It’s super lightweight (like a cloud!) and blends into skin easily and quickly, but still leaves it feeling hydrated and gives it a dewey texture, which I love! There is a subtle floral scent, but it’s light and fresh– very natural smelling.

Rosewater is especially good for calming redness in skin, which I often get after washing and touching my skin. It also has aloe vera, rice extracts and white tea to hydrate and soothe skin. My skin feels moisturized and supple after using this and the hydrated feeling lasts all day. I use this as a day moisturizer as I prefer to use a thicker cream, oil or serum at night, but is one I could see myself using daily.

Orchid Youth-Preserving Facial Oil

When my skin needs an extra dose of hydration, I reach for the Herbivore Botanicals Orchid Youth-Preserving Facial Oil (c/o).This oil is light, not nearly as thick as an argan oil, and includes a mix of orchid, jasmine and camellia flower extracts. These floral extracts are used to defend against free-radicals; the oil also contains vitamins and fatty acids omega 3 and 6 to protect against premature aging. I seriously wish I could just soak in a tub of this oil! It leaves my skin feeling soft, hydrated and gives it this pretty natural-looking glow.

It does have a soft floral scent, which is nice and soothing– not a fake, air freshener type of floral scent. While I do mostly use this in the daytime, this oil can also be worn at night.

Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist

The Herbivore Botanicals Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist (c/o) is the product that I have been most excited to try from the brand. I’ve seen a lot of buzz on this product and I’m a sucker for a good face mist. This spray does not disappoint– it leaves my skin feeling refreshed and hydrated… plus it smells AMAZING. This mist is a mix of coconut water, aloe leaf water, hibiscus flower petals and rose to hydrate skin. The rose will help to soothe skin and reduce any redness

I’ll spray this on before I start applying my makeup as a toner and sometimes I’ll even use it as a setting spray and refresher after I apply makeup. You can drop this face mist in your bag to give yourself a refreshing spritz while on the go. Paired with the Pink Cloud Moisture Crème, and Orchid Facial Oil, it keeps my skin looking and feeling hydrated, smooth and glowing.

The only con is that it is pricey- over $30- so I do try to spritz sparingly. Trust me, it’s been hard to hold back since this feels so good on the skin!

Overall I am so impressed with these three products… and how fab my skin looks after using them! If you haven’t tried this brand yet, I highly recommend you do so. There are products suitable for every skin type– for face and body, and even hair.
