Reddit – Dive into anything

I’ve repeatedly read that the host network outperforms the bridge network, but the bridge network is the default when creating containers.

There are some exceptions, of course. Home Assistant, as an example, installs to host. Some Pi-Hole installs want their own macvlan network, but don’t absolutely need it (except for the default interceptor webpage as I understand it).

With bridge being the default, is there a reason for this to be a “best practice” or “practical practice”?

I’ve gone through the seven containers on my Synology and in learning how to properly destroy and rebuild my environment almost instantaneously via scripts, I have been testing running all of my containers on the host network.

I haven’t experienced any issues, and for all intents and purposes, I’m under the impression that everything should technically be running more efficiently.

Am I wrong or otherwise misguided? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
