Introduction

The MEW wallet app allows users to access and interact with crypto held on the Polygon blockchain simply by switching networks.

Users can:

  • Access MATIC and/or tokens on the Polygon network

  • Move Ethereum assets to the Polygon network

  • Buy/Sell MATIC token using your credit/debit card

  • Swap tokens

  • Explore and interact with the Polygon DApps

Please note: The Polygon network is only accessible on MEW wallet Android and MEW web at the moment. If you need to access the Polygon network with MEW wallet iOS, go ahead and check out the ‘Connect to MEW web with MEW wallet’ article for assistance with that.

Also, see the ‘How to Change Networks’ article for information about changing networks on the MEW web.

Accessing the Polygon network

  1. Open the MEW wallet app then click the network name located in the top left-hand corner.

  2. When the drop-down expands, click on ‘Polygon Network’ to change your network to Polygon.

  3. Congratulations! You’ve successfully accessed the Polygon network.

Buying MATIC on the Polygon Network

Our providers at Simplex and MoonPay allow users to securely buy/sell MATIC directly from your MEW wallet app.

For a more in-depth explanation about buying or selling Matic, go ahead and check out the following article:

  1. Open the MEW wallet app and change your network to ‘Polygon’ by clicking the Ethereum network name located in the top left-hand corner and selecting ‘Polygon’.

  2. Click on the ‘Swap’ tab found at the bottom of the screen then click on ‘Buy Matic’

  3. Choose the currency that you’ll be purchasing with and select the amount of MATIC that you want to buy from the choices.

    1. You also have the choice to enter a custom amount if you have a specific amount in mind.

  4. In the Provider’s screen, go ahead and choose which provider you want to use to buy your MATIC.

  5. You’ll then be redirected to the provider’s website to finish your purchase.

    1. We recommend checking out the article referenced above to get step-by-step directions for both providers.

Congratulations! You just bought some MATIC! To double-check the purchase, feel free to look back at your account to make sure it went through.

Swapping on the Polygon Network

Swaps on the Polygon network in the MEW wallet app are provided by 1inch, Paraswap, and 0x, all decentralized exchange aggregators. Our providers compare prices from different exchanges so that you’re always given the best deals for your swap.

  1. Open the MEW wallet app then click the network name above the header of the main screen.

  2. Click on ‘Polygon Network’ to change your network to Polygon.

  3. Click the ‘Swap’ tab at the bottom of the app interface and then click ‘Swap tokens’.

  4. When you get to the Swap window, click on ‘Select token’ to find the token that you want to swap for.

  5. Enter the amount that you would like to swap for then click ‘Find Best Rates’.

  6. Select the swap provider that you wish to use for the swap then allow some time for the fee to populate. Once the fee has populated, go ahead and click ‘Proceed with Swap’.

  7. Enter your MEW wallet PIN, or whatever other biometric verification you use, to verify the transaction.

  8. Congratulations! You are all done! Make sure to check the progress on the MEW wallet app, in your transaction history, or on polygonscan.com.

Sending MATIC and tokens on the Polygon network

This will require gas, so please make sure that you have enough MATIC to cover it. See the ‘Buying MATIC on Polygon network’ section of this article for help with your purchase.

  1. Access your wallet then click the network name above the header of the main screen.

  2. Click on ‘Polygon Network’ to change your network to Polygon.

  3. On the account card that you want to send from, click the up ‘sending’ arrow.

  4. Paste the address you’re sending to and click ‘Continue’.

    1. You can also click the camera icon to scan the QR code of the receiver’s wallet address.

  5. Choose the transaction speed that you would like in the ‘Choose transaction fee’ window. Keep in mind that faster speeds require a higher transaction fee.

  6. Enter your PIN to confirm the transfer and then allow some time for the transaction to process. This part could take a few minutes depending on the volume of traffic.

  7. Congratulations! You’re all done. To confirm the transfer, you can click on ‘View progress’ or you can check the transaction on the Polygon blockchain explorer: https://polygonscan.com/

Receiving MATIC and tokens

Keep in mind that the receiving address for crypto sent to your wallet through the Polygon network will be the same as your Ethereum address. In order to see those funds on your MEW wallet app, you would need to switch to the Polygon network every time.

Please note: NEVER provide your Recovery information (Private key, Recovery phrase, etc) for anyone! If someone is saying that they need that information in order to send crypto to your wallet, it’s most likely a scam. Check out the ‘Pro-Tips: How to Avoid Phishing/ Scam’ for more safety tips.

To Receive funds:

  1. Open the MEW wallet app and change your network to Polygon.

  2. Click on the account card that you want to receive funds to then click the down ‘receiving’ arrow or ‘Receive’.

  3. Your public address should then appear along with the QR code for the wallet itself.

From here, you have the following options:

  • Click the ‘Share’ option, which allows you to send your public wallet address to someone via text, email, save to your files, etc.

  • Click the ‘Copy’ option which just copied your wallet address to your clipboard. You can then directly paste it wherever you intend to.

  • If the sender is near you, you can have the sender scan your QR code for a faster copy.

You’re all set! Once the transaction is completed, you should be able to see it in your ‘Recent transactions’ on the app. You can also double-check Polygonscan to make sure it went through correctly.

Interacting with DApps on the Polygon network

Interacting with DApps on MEW wallet is a seamless process, even when using the Polygon network. Connecting with DApps on the Polygon network is done in the same way as on the Ethereum network, however, you first need to change to the ‘Polygon network’. MATIC is also required for gas to interact with anything. Users can use the featured DApps and search for other DApps in the browser.

Go ahead and check out the ‘Interacting with DApps on Android’ article for guidance with this.
