Mega Man Battle Network 5 saw the first time players are able to play as other Navis using the traditional Battle Network battle system.
- The Japanese version saw multiple release variations for this game:
- Early purchase of Team of Blues came with a Dark Sword Progress BattleChip.
- Team of Blues came with an additional gift depending on the retailer it was purchased from. Wristband SearchMan ver. (e-Capcom).
- Team of Colonel came with an additional gift depending on the retailer it was purchased from. Wristband KnightMan ver. (e-Capcom), Gospel Modification card (Ito-Yokado), Serenade Modification card (Toys ‘R’ Us).
- Rockman EXE 5 Team Colonel had a pre-release with the Rockman EXE 5 Team of Colonel – Movie Release Edition, which could be pre-ordered alongside the ticket for the Rockman EXE and Duel Masters movie. This edition of the game started shipping on February 4th[1][2]. It came with a mini 2005 calendar and a ForteXX Modification card. Certain theaters also included a Dark Thunder Progress BattleChip.
- Rockman EXE 5 Team of Blues with Modification Card! Guide Book Value Pack came with with the Special Compilation Guide Book and a Hikari Saito Modification card.
- Rockman EXE 5 Team of Colonel with Modification Card! Guide Book Value Pack came with the Special Compilation Guide Book and a Proto Modification card.
- North American first print of the games came with the Lightning3 Advanced BattleChip for Team ProtoMan and Meteors3 Advanced BattleChip for Team Colonel.
- While most MMBN Game Paks are the standard gray color, Japanese Game Pak for Team Colonel is teal colored. International versions use the standard gray color.

None of the doors are opened. Closing 1st door will also close 2nd door at the same time.

Only the 1st door, the way to Nebula Area 1, is opened.

Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team DS is the first Battle Network port on the Nintendo DS. In addition to having both games on one Game Pak, many changes and fixes have been made for the DS format. The European version of the game is the first time the games have been officially translated to languages other than English.
- In Japan, early purchase of Twin Leaders came with a Rockman Sword stylus and LCD cleaner.
