Why We Chose Epos Now for Integrations

When researching and testing Epos Now, we found it to be one of the most comprehensive POS systems in terms of integrations. The software is feature-rich, but it can also integrate with hundreds of third-party applications, giving employers the ability to streamline several key business functions. For reference, many other POS systems we analyzed offer integrations with only about 50 to 70 other applications. What’s more, Epos Now also integrates with third-party payment processors, while many competitors require you to use their in-house payment processor. This is ideal for those who want the freedom to choose a payment processor that best suits them.

Bottom Line

Epos Now integrates with hundreds of third-party applications, more than most other POS systems on the market.

What We Like About Epos Now

  • Epos Now integrates with hundreds of third-party applications.
  • Epos now offers sturdy, versatile hardware, including terminals, handheld devices, tablet systems, kitchen display systems and a variety of third-party accessories and devices.
  • The flexible software is easy to train staff on.

What We Don’t Like About Epos Now

  • The discounted POS rates require users to purchase a monthly customer support plan.
  • Epos Now doesn’t offer any in-house payment processing.

Ease of Use

We like that Epos Now offers POS systems that are geared toward retail (apparel store, convenience store, electronic store, gift shop, vape store, liquor store) and hospitality (restaurant, bar, cafe, quick service, bakery) specifically, so business owners can rest assured that they are getting features relevant to their industry. This helps to simplify the product and make it easier for each user to implement.

We found Epos Now competitive with other POS systems in terms of usability. The company claims that the POS software is so easy to use that employees can be trained on it in 15 minutes. This is ideal for companies that want to get up and running quickly. We like that you can set permissions and add modifications to the software so that your staff gets the most out of it.

Features

The top POS providers go to great lengths to offer an array of POS features at an affordable price. Epos Now delivers on both fronts. Here’s a look at the POS features that helped to make Epos Now our best pick for integrations.

Integrations

Epos Now stands out among the competition when it comes to integrations with third-party software. With more than 100 app integrations available, this system is compatible with more third-party platforms than most other POS systems we reviewed. Integration capabilities are extremely important for customizing your POS system to meet the needs of your business. It allows you to streamline multiple business processes with ease.

Some popular integrations that Epos Now supports are Shopify, QuickBooks, Sage Business Cloud Accounting, Mailchimp, NearSt, BigCommerce, SimpleERB and Workforce.com. It also offers in-house integrations such as Epos Now Delivery and Epos Now Order and Pay. We especially like that APIs are also available to add custom integrations to the system.

Payment Processing Integrations

While many of the other POS systems we examined require you to use their own internal payment processing system, Epos Now gives you the flexibility to partner with a third-party provider. Epos Now integrates with major payment providers, such as EVO Payments and International Bancard, so that you can choose one that’s right for you and negotiate your own rate.

Reporting

When testing out Epos Now, we liked that the dashboard gives you an overview of sales in real time and lets you run essential reports on the spot. We also found that you can customize reports to display the information that matters most, such as the top-performing products, the waitstaff members who ring up the most sales or the customers who spend the most. You can display transactions by day, hour, week or month, and pinpoint the products and brands with the best profit margins. You can also export these reports into your accounting software to get a clearer picture of the health of your business.

Customer Management and Loyalty Programs

Epos Now has a built-in customer management system that is comparable to those of other POS systems we reviewed. It allows you to amass information about your customers and use it to customize sales and loyalty programs. A nice customer management feature we noticed when testing out the software is that users can also add a points element to their customer profiles. For example, as customers earn points over time, those points are saved in the Epos Now system, and then they can use those points to pay for products or services. You can also use the software to send customer invoices, which you can manage on the back end of the system.

Inventory and Menu Management

Epos Now’s inventory management tools are on par with the industry standard. We liked that the software offers competitive restaurant inventory management features like real-time floor plan management, time-at-table tracking and integrations with major restaurant management apps. The software also lets you track inventory, automate the ordering process and receive control alerts when stock is getting low, thus preventing you from running out of hot-selling items or having to take a dish off the menu.

When testing the software, we also noticed an impressive kitchen management tool. The kitchen display software lets kitchen staff control orders digitally instead of using printed tickets. This is great for reducing paper costs and managing cook times.

Pricing

We like that Epos Now offers a demo and a 30-day free trial, which is more generous than some other POS vendors on the market. It also offers plans ranging from one to three years.

  • Complete system pricing: Epos Now POS systems start at a one-time cost of $999 or a monthly fee of $72, payable over three years. The Complete package includes a touchscreen POS system, secure cash drawer and high-speed printer. You also get access to the company’s software, which integrates with more than 100 apps. You can use any of the major payment providers to process payments. As of March 2022, Epos Now is offering a substantial discount: an upfront cost of $449 or $39 per month for three years. With this discounted plan, users are required to sign up for a customer support payment plan that costs $59 per month.
  • Handheld system pricing: Epos Now also offers a handheld system, the Epos Pocket, which allows you to take orders from anywhere. The company has two plans for the Epos Pocket: Plan One is $0 upfront plus $44 per month, and Plan Two is $189 upfront plus $24 per month.
  • Tablet system pricing: Epos Now’s iPad POS system starts at $599 and includes an Apple iPad, iPad POS stand, cash drawer, receipt printer and your first month of access to the Epos Now software. The Android package costs the same and comes with a Samsung Galaxy tablet, tablet POS stand, cash drawer, receipt printer and your first month of access to the Epos Now software. We were surprised to see that the Epos Now tablet plans come with iPads and tablets, since most competitors require you to purchase those separately.

Epos Now plans also offer installation, configuration and training, which is ideal for those who need to get their POS system up and running quickly.

Implementation and Onboarding

Epos Now offers retail- and hospitality-centric POS systems with varying plans and pricing. Once you determine which software and hardware combination works best for you, the implementation process is relatively quick. You will first need to set up the software to match your company’s needs. For example, if you own a restaurant, you will want to add your food items to the system and create a floor plan that mimics your physical layout.

Since the POS software includes role-based user management, the implementation process includes assigning employee permissions based on roles within the organization. Each employee is assigned a PIN code or given a swipe card to sign in, and the software logs the employee and tracks their activity on the register. The software also has a built-in timeclock and staff scheduling tools. Training employees on the software typically doesn’t take very long.

Customer Support

Epos Now offers a monthly paid customer support plan that includes 24/7 phone and chat support. Although Epos Now is a U.K.-based company, we spoke with an Epos Now representative and were informed that the company offers international support. It is reassuring that you can receive customer support regardless of location. Although Epos Now does offer support resources on its website, we also found a separate support website with extensive resources.

Limitations

If you sign up for the discounted POS system, Epos Now requires you to also purchase a customer support plan for $59 per month. While this support plan does include several helpful resources, including 24/7 phone and chat support, it is an extra monthly fee that you will need to consider. If you are looking for a restaurant POS system that automatically includes extensive customer support, check out our TouchBistro review.

We also noticed that Epos Now offers one-year to five-year contracts only. Annual and multiyear contracts are relatively standard among many of the POS systems we reviewed, but it can be a limitation to someone looking for a temporary POS system. If you’re looking for shorter-term plans, read our review of Clover.
