Server Configuration

Host name

Description:

This area is displayed for a single server selection and allows you to change the unqualified host name of the server from the display name assigned when the server is first discovered to a name that has more meaning in your facility.

Data type:

Alphanumeric. Hyphens () and periods (.) are allowed. No spaces or special characters.

Default value:

None

Host name prefix

This field is only displayed for multiple server selection and is used with the Starting index to generate host names automatically.

This area allows you to change the unqualified host name of the server from the name assigned when the server is first discovered to a name that has more meaning in your facility.

The servers selected will be given a host name beginning with this prefix and ending with a number starting with the Starting index and incrementing for each server.

NOTE: Host names are assigned top to bottom as displayed in the Run OS Build Plan Servers table. Changing the table order affects host name and IP address assignments.

Starting index

This field is only displayed for multiple server selection and is used with the Host name prefix to generate host names automatically.

This area allows you to change the unqualified host name of the server from the name assigned when the server is first discovered to a name that has more meaning in your facility.

The servers selected will be given a host name beginning with the Host name prefix and continuing with a number starting with this index and incrementing for each server.

You may add leading zeros to this field to increase the number of digits used for numbering.

Gateway

Description:

The IP address of the node in your local network that allows communication to other networks.

Data type:

Numeric. Periods (.) and colons (:) allowed.

DNS domain

Description:

This is a period (.) separated string and is usually the right side part of a fully qualified host name.

Data type:

A period (.) separated character string.

Default value:

None

DNS server list

Description:

You may provide multiple DNS servers delimited by commas, spaces, or both.

Data type:

IP addresses.

Default value:

None

Examples:

8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4

DNS suffix search list

Description:

A list of domains separated by commas, spaces, or both.

Data type:

A list of period (.) separated character strings separated by spaces or commas.

Default value:

None

Required:

Examples:

corp.net, my.corp.net

Windows networking — Set workgroup

Description:

If you specify a workgroup, the server will be assigned that workgroup name.

Data type:

A string up to 15 characters. The string may not contain special characters such as: :, ;, >, <, *, +, =, |, ?, \, and .

Network Configuration

NIC check boxes

Description:

Select the NICs you would like to modify. (If you do not configure a NIC on this screen, its configuration will not be changed on the target server.) Then select your IP assignment:

  • DHCP – Make a DHCP request to get the IP address and other networking information from a DHCP server. Choosing this might mean the system will get a different IP address each time it boots.

  • Static – Specify an IP address and network mask that will stay the same on every boot. If you select this option, you are required to specify an IP address and network mask. These fields will be displayed automatically if this option is selected.

    • IP addresses are numeric characters separated by periods (.) such as

      192.168.1.1

      This address is displayed for a single server selection.

    • Starting IP address: Servers will be assigned incremented static IP addresses beginning with this address. This is displayed for multiple server selection.

    • A Network mask is the IPv4 mask representing the bits reserved for network identification such as:

      255.255.255.0

      This address is displayed for a single server selection.

A View Generated Settings table will be displayed to show how the values will resolve for each host if this server configuration is saved.

  • Display Name – The name displayed in the Servers master pane.

  • Host Name – The server name you can set with the Host name text box in the Server Configuration area of the Configure network screen.

  • NIC – The name of the NIC as set within the server.

  • MAC Address – The hardware address for the NIC.

  • IP Address – The assigned static IP address or DHCP if the IP address will be assigned by DHCP, depending on the selection for this NIC.

Network Configuration screen buttons

OK

Saves the network configuration information for the server using the parameters on the screen.

[CAUTION: ]

CAUTION: Network changes made to production servers will be applied as soon as OK is selected, possibly disconnecting active users of that system.

Reset

Clears the data you entered on the screen.

Cancel

Closes the edit window without saving your changes.
