Cheapest Weekend Breaks in the UK: Best Places for Cheap Food, Drink and More
Researchers took into account things like the cost of food, drinks, accommodation and public transport
As the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite, we wouldn’t blame you for considering a cheaper holiday than usual at the mo. And while staycations are often a more affordable option than international trips, some domestic travel spots are significantly cheaper than others.
If you’re looking for somewhere to have a really, really cheap weekend away in the UK, some handy new research from Jersey Island Holidays is here to help. The study took into account various factors, including the cost of food, drinks and public transport, plus Airbnb and hotel rates, to figure out which UK destinations are likely to be the most affordable.
And top of the ranking was… Leicester! The average cost of a weekend away in the East Midlands city is apparently £572, which, compared to the most expensive city (London, £1,230), is a total bargain. And, from its King Richard III Visitor Centre to its dazzling National Space Centre, Leicester’s well worth a visit, too.
Next up was Coventry, with a weekend rate of £581, followed by Cardiff, at £588. Interestingly, many UK destinations proved more expensive than international holiday spots. In this ranking of cheap European weekend getaways, many places came out much, much more affordable than any in the Jersey Island Holidays study.
Here are the top ten cheapest weekend breaks in the UK, according to Jersey Island Holidays:
- Leicester (£572)
- Coventry (£581)
- Cardiff (£588)
- Northampton (£592)
- Stoke-on-Trent (£611)
- Leeds (£621)
- Birmingham (£643)
