Capcom Asks For Patience Regarding Mega Man News As Battle Network Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary
Capcom’s been giving Mega Man increased attention in recent years. Between Mega Man 11 and several Legacy Collections – covering the original series and Mega Man X sub-series – many fans have been hoping we’d see similar love for Mega Man Battle Network.
Known in Japan as Rockman.EXE, yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of its Japanese release, and we’ve not seen a mainline entry for 15 years (12 years if you count Operate Shooting Star, which crossed over with the Star Force sub-series).
Speaking through Rockman Unity – Capcom’s official Mega Man blog – to commemorate this, the company detailed several Battle Network announcements. Admittedly, most of these had been previously confirmed, such as a “Rockman Exe Treasure Box”, but no new game announcements were made.
Perhaps anticipating disappointment over this, Capcom’s Takekuni Uchida also left this comment:
If the world hadn’t been in such a state, I might have had other plans to announce. But for now, I think it’s time to be patient. Of course, washing hands, gargling and social distancing are important, too. It’s always Rockman who beats the virus after all!
Many companies have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic – Capcom itself has come under heavy criticism for allegedly forcing staff to work onsite – so we’re hardly surprised to hear this has caused delays.
Still, it’s evident that something is being planned, new game or otherwise. Capcom previously stated last year it is open to a new Battle Network game, but also clarified that it would need to consider “all” factors. For now, we’ll have to wait on those further announcements.
