COLD WEATHER SKINCARE TIPS FROM DERMATOLOGIST, DR. HAROLD LANCER

As the temperatures keep dropping, it’s time to get a jump start on transitioning your skincare products for the winter. With the right skincare routine, dry, icy temperatures are no longer a threat to dimming your glow! To help you get ready, we sought some expert advice from Dr. Harold Lancer, world-renowned dermatologist and founder of Lancer Skincare for maintaining radiant, youthful-looking skin all year long.

Maintaining the Glow

Not only does the colder weather dry out the skin, but it’s often made worse by the indoor heating system zapping the moisture out of the air. It’s important to start incorporating a richer moisturizer, but it’s also key to assess the type of cleansers, exfoliants, or serums you may be using to have all of your products work in tandem with each other.

Dr. Lancer suggests starting with The Lancer Method, which is a simple three-step routine that’s designed for all skin types and works great for restoring the skin.

Step 1: Polish

The Polish

While most of us have been told to start with a cleanser, Dr. Lancer recommends starting with an exfoliant to provide a thorough cleanse. It’s also important to exfoliate during the colder months to help buff away dry skin to reveal softer, smoother skin. The Method: Polish uses exfoliant beads and fruit enzymes to gently remove dead skin cells while moisturizing the skin at the same time. Depending on your skin type, use 2 – 3 times a week during the chillier weather.

Tips for using the Polish

  • If you’re wearing makeup, remove prior to using the Polish as makeup blocks the pores from receiving the full benefits

  • Apply the Polish to dry or slightly damp skin

  • Massage the Polish all over the face and neck

Step 2: Cleanse

Instead of washing away the Polish with just water, use The Method: Cleanse to sweep away the remaining impurities. This cleanser leaves the complexion smooth, refreshed, and clean without stripping the skin of its natural moisture.

Step 3: Nourish

The Nourish

To finish off, apply The Method: Nourish over the face, neck, and décolleté in small circular motions. This nutrient-dense cream creates a veil of plumping moisture without a heavy or greasy finish.

Super Hydrating Skincare Concoction

Feeling like your skin needs an extra dose of hydration? Dr. Lancer shared with us his skincare concoction that goes in tandem with his three-step Lancer Method.

Mix 50/50 of:

Activate Rejuvenation Serum

  • A powerful serum that provides all-day hydration and smooths fine lines, wrinkles, and improves radiance.

Omega Hydrating Oil

  • A rich oil that helps lock in moisture and delivers essential hydration and antioxidants to the skin.

Apply this skin-loving mix on your face, neck, and décolleté to keep the skin plump and moisturized throughout the winter months.

Nourish the Body

It may be sweater weather and your skin isn’t exposed as much, but it’s still extremely important to keep exfoliating the rest of your body! Because the skin needs extra moisture during the colder weather, exfoliating helps slough off dead skin cells which helps moisturizers absorb better into the skin. It also boosts circulation (which makes you warmer) and speeds up cell renewal for fresh new skin.

Massage a generous amount of The Method: Body Polish onto dry skin using firm, circular motions. The Body Polish is infused with a blend of oils and vitamins to help keep skin soft and supple. Plus, it’s infused with Zeolite, a natural mineral that creates an invigorating warming sensation activated by water – perfect for chilly days! Follow immediately after with The Method: Body Cleanse to lock in the moisture and gently sweep skin free of environmental pollutants.

Another way to simply yet effectively nourish the body is to drink lots of water during the chillier weather! Dr. Lancer stresses that having a solid skincare routine is important, but also suggests drinking ample amounts of water and reducing sodium intake in your diet. Pair this lifestyle change with the appropriate skincare products and you’ll be glowing from head to toe!

Shield the Skin

Don’t let the gloomy weather trick you into thinking that the sun isn’t out! It’s very important to keep wearing sunscreen even when the temperatures dip as the UV rays are still very strong during the colder months. It’s also important to note that the sun reflects on things such as water puddles, car windows, snow, or ice.

For daily sun protection, the Sheer Fluid Sun Shield SPF 30 is a great way to shield and hydrate the skin. Due to its weightless formula, it can also be applied as a make-up primer. Dr. Lancer suggests applying sunscreen every 2 – 3 hours for optimal sun protection!

We hope that this blog helps you feel more confident with facing the colder weather! Thank you Dr. Lancer for tips and tricks on using your products to properly protect, nourish, and boost the skin’s radiance for the new season. Here’s to the colder weather and not letting it dim our glow.
