BBA in Operations Management

The operations management major focuses on understanding project and quality management, supply chain management, operations planning and scheduling, service operations, and operations strategy. Operations management professionals typically employ computer-based tools such as spreadsheets, project management software, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

The operations management program provides a career path in both manufacturing and service organizations. Students gain experience through co-ops, internships and part-time employment supported by the Career Services team at the Lindner College of Business. Study abroad is strongly encouraged and opportunities in China and Chile are pre-approved for credit towards the degree program. The student group Association for Supply Chain Management is active with off-campus tours and on-campus seminars that augment the operations management coursework.

The operations management degree gives a lot of flexibility in selecting upper-level operations classes. As operations management students may end up in a variety of industries (supply chains, manufacturing, services, consulting, etc.), the faculty strongly recommend that the students take one of the following tracks of courses when selecting their upper-level electives. For students more interested in supply chains, take OM4081 Supply Chain Management and (OM4082 Procurement and Logistics or OM4076 Operations Planning and Scheduling). For students more interested in services, take OM4088 Service Sector Management and (OM4089 Healthcare Management & Operations or OM4076 Operations Planning and Scheduling). These tracks will help to focus your studies in operations management, but completing a track is not required for graduation.
