La série met en scène les mésaventures d’un mouton fuguant la ferme pour s’installer dans la grande ville ; certaines scènes sont d’ailleurs similaires à la série The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Sheep in the Big City is an American animated television series created by Mo Willems for Cartoon Network, and the 9th of the network’s Cartoon Cartoons. The series’ pilot first premiered as part of Cartoon Network’s “Cartoon Cartoon Summer” on August 18, 2000, before its official debut on November 17, 2000. Willems previously created The Off-Beats for Nickelodeon’s KaBlam! before working on this animated show. The series follows a runaway sheep named Sheep in his new life in “the Big City”, where he tries to avoid a secret military organization. It also features several unrelated sketches and shorts, similar to those from The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends. With an emphasis on sophisticated (in particular, literal) humor, using different forms of rhetoric from characters to plots, it included comic references to filmmaking and television broadcasting. At the time, the premiere of Sheep in the Big City was the highest-rated premiere for a Cartoon Network original series. The animation services for the series were handled by the Korean animation studio Rough Draft Korea. This was Cartoon Network’s first original series produced by the animation studio Curious Pictures, who would later go on to produce Codename: Kids Next Door in 2002.

Sheep in the Big City (Schaap in de Grote Stad) is een Amerikaanse animatieserie door , die is uitgezonden door Cartoon Network en Boomerang. Het liep van 4 november 2000 tot 7 april 2002 op de Amerikaanse Cartoon Network en werd later nog herhaald. In Nederland en Vlaanderen ging het in première op 7 september 2001 en eindigde op 21 oktober 2002. Het werd later nog herhaald tot en met 3 februari 2014. De tekenfilm volgt een schaap genaamd Schaap dat is weggelopen van zijn boerderij en moet zien te overleven in de stad. Er zijn doorheen het programma vele sketches te zien. Elke aflevering is namelijk opgedeeld in drie delen (met elk een titel) en tussen elk deel zie je ‘reclames’ van Oxymoron. Ook zapt Schaap voor de titelsong voorbij een flauw tv-programma en voor de aftiteling zie je een Zweed tekeergaan.

A série foi criada por Mo Willems. O primeiro piloto da série estreou como parte da Cartoon Network no “Cartoon Cartoon Summer” em 18 de agosto de 2000. No Brasil, foi exibido no Cartoon Network e no SBT, nos anos 2000. Em Portugal, estreou no Cartoon Network Europa em 2001, na versão original (sem legendas) e posteriormente foi reposta no Boomerang Europa, também na versão original (sem legendas). Também passou na RTP1 em 2002, no bloco “Hora Warner” com dobragem portuguesa apenas na primeira temporada. Criada por Mo Willems, que anteriormente criou para a Nickelodeon no , a série foca a vida de um carneiro fugitivo, Sheep, na Cidade Grande. Igualmente caracteriza diversos esboços e shorts unrelated, similares ao e . Apresenta várias esquetes curtas sem nenhuma conexão com o restante do programa, geralmente propagandas de produtos imaginários. A animação possuía clima de sitcom, com ênfase no humor “sofisticado”, usando muito do literal, usando várias formas de retórica para os personagens no enredo, era mais popular entre os públicos mais antigos. Também ficou famoso por apresentar várias referências inusitadas ao lado por trás das câmeras dos mundos do cinema e da televisão. Sheep foi inspirado na ovelha “Dolly”, que foi a primeira clonagem animal bem sucedida. Na época, a estreia de Sheep in the Big City foi a estreia mais bem avaliada para uma série original da Cartoon Network.

Premiera polska – 3 września 2001; premiera światowa – 4 listopada 2000. W grudniu 2003 roku serial zakończył swoją emisję w Polsce. 10 listopada 2007 rozpoczęła się emisja serialu na kanale Boomerang. Emitowane są odcinki 1-25. Serial opowiada o życiu barana o imieniu Owca, pochodzącego z farmy Farmera Jana. Jednak ścigany przez Tajną Organizację Militarną, dowodzoną przez Generała Konkretnego, pragnącego wykorzystać Owcę jako napęd Działa Napędzanego Owcą, Owca zmuszony jest uciekać z farmy i zamieszkać w Wielkim Mieście. Każdy odcinek składa się z trzech części, rozdzielonych reklamami fikcyjnych produktów, najczęściej firmy Oksymoron, a kończony jest stand-upem Gadającego Szweda.
