29 Best Office Chairs: Ergonomic Picks Tested and Reviewed
Here’s how I’d sum up the Officer Swivel Chair: Absolutely great looking and eco-friendly, but perhaps not the most comfortable. This piece is a lighter and more streamlined update of a chair originally designed in the 1940s for the US Military. Each component of the chair is made by hand–from the recycled aluminum frame to the upholstered seat cushion and back. The seat and back are printed with Maharam’s reissue of Alexander Girard’s “Mexidot” fabric, which was inspired by elegant weavings he found in Mexico. The chair is beautifully designed from a visual perspective and, as an avid fan of sustainable textiles, I have been thrilled to work in it.
With that said, it is a bit smaller and a bit harder than I’d hoped. I find the seat and back to be quite thin and rigid. I value supportiveness in an office chair, but this one keeps me sitting a little too upright to the point that I’m uncomfortable. It could use some more cushioning or bounce to the seat and a bit more flexibility in the back. Even though it looks very posh and fits well in a small desk space, the seat is a bit too narrow for me. Personally, I like to womanspread and slouch in my desk chair, so I need something comfy and spacious enough to allow me to do so while still feeling supported. If looks are of utmost importance, it’s the top pick chair for you, but otherwise you might want to peruse the more ergonomic office chairs on this list. —Livia Caligor
