20 Pokémon With The Fewest Type Weaknesses

Knowing a Pokémon’s type weakness is one of the best ways to get a leg-up in battle, but some Pokémon have fewer type weaknesses than others.

It’s not always easy to put together the perfect Pokémon team. It’s ideal to create a team that contains Pokémon of varying types in order to protect them against a multitude of enemies but doesn’t lose the opportunity to dish out super effective attacks. With many Pokémon falling under more than one type, these combinations can make Pokémon vulnerable to more types than expected.

RELATED: 15 Pokémon With The Most Type Weaknesses

Thankfully, for those wanting to know what Pokémon types have the least weaknesses, there are a few combinations out there that only have one or even no weaknesses. These types are Electric, Normal, Ghost/Dark, Poison/Dark, Water/Ground, Bug/Steel, Water/Electric, and one of the more recent combinations, Normal/Ghost. Some Pokémon even have natural Abilities that prevent type weaknesses. Having these Pokémon can give Trainers a huge advantage.

Updated on December 11th, 2022 by Tom Steel: Pokémon battles are engaging competitions that rely on a Trainer’s knowledge of what their Pokémon’s respective strengths and weaknesses are. With so many Pokémon and typings in the franchise, it’s helpful to tell at a glance what makes certain Pokémon so exceptional, from their base stats to their type weaknesses. This list has been updated to include more Pokémon that have one or no type weaknesses, including examples recently introduced in Gen IX’s Scarlet & Violet, as the new Terastallization mechanic has added an interesting new spin on how weaknesses can now work.

Pikachu Is Protected By Its Electric Typing

Weak To: Ground

Pikachu smiling in a Pokémon arena in the anime

The first Pokémon to come to the mind of any Pokémon fan is Pikachu. Pikachu may not be known as the strongest Pokémon in the games, but it’s in a group of over 30 Electric Pokémon who only have one weakness. Alongside Normal, Electric is the type with the least weaknesses.

  • HP: 35
  • Attack: 55
  • Defense: 40
  • Special Attack: 50
  • Special Defense: 50
  • Speed: 90

Ground moves are the only moves super effective against Electric Pokémon, and Electric-type moves have no effect on Ground Pokémon. However, Electric moves are super effective against Flying and Water Pokémon, making a pure Electric Pokémon a great addition to a trainer’s team. Even Pikachu’s Gigantamax form is solely an Electric type.

Bellibolt Thrives As An Electric Type

Weak To: Ground

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Gym Leader Iono with Electric Frog Bellibolt

Pawmi and Bellibolt are two new pure Electric-types that only have one weakness. Bellibolt gets a good showing in Scarlet & Violet as one of Levincia Gym Leader Iono’s prized Pokémon, and it only has to be wary of Ground types. Bellibolt has a decent enough stat spread but utilizing its Electromorphosis Ability can help it turn into an offensive tank, providing it survives the first hit.

  • HP: 109
  • Attack: 64
  • Defense: 91
  • Special Attack: 103
  • Special Defense: 83
  • Speed: 45

In Scarlet & Violet, players have the luxury of the Terastal phenomenon, both for offensive and defensive means. In Bellibolt’s case, a Flying Tera type would help it avoid its usual solitary Ground weakness, although that’ll leave it vulnerable to the various weaknesses of Flying types instead.

18

Snorlax Is A Bulky Normal Type

Weak To: Fighting

Snorlax yawns in the Pokemon anime

Snorlax is a Pokémon that can hit hard one turn and sleep off all any damage taken in the next. Snorlax is easily one of the strongest Pokémon in the first generation and was the source of many Trainers’ frustrations when they attempted to catch it for the first time.

  • HP: 160
  • Attack: 110
  • Defense: 65
  • Special Attack: 65
  • Special Defense: 110
  • Speed: 30

What makes Snorlax even more impressive is that it only has a single weakness. It only takes extra damage from Pokémon that use Fighting-type moves. It also helps that Snorlax has incredibly high HP and Special Defense stats, making it tough to knock out.

17

Sableye Had No Weaknesses Before The Fairy Typing

Weak To: Fairy

A wild Sableye grins at his prospects in Pokemon

Sableye is one of only two Pokémon that’s a Ghost/Dark-type. Although it’s a Pokémon that likes to keep to itself and consume gems, it’s feared because its Pokédex entry states it’s known for stealing souls. In battle, Sableye is just as intimidating due to its lack of weaknesses.

  • HP: 50
  • Attack: 75
  • Defense: 75
  • Special Attack: 65
  • Special Defense: 65
  • Speed: 50

RELATED: Pokémon: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About The Normal Type

Sableye is only weak to Fairy types. When it was initially introduced in the games, some Trainers chose not to add it to their teams because it couldn’t evolve. Sableye since gained a Mega Evolution, and it still retains the same types, although Mega Evolution isn’t present in the more recent games.

16

Cynthia’s Spiritomb Was Terrifying Before The Introduction Of Fairy Types

Weak To: Fairy

Spiritomb looking mysterious and spooky in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Another Ghost/Dark-type, Spiritomb is the Forbidden Pokémon. While it appears there’s only one spirit that makes up Spiritomb, it’s actually 108 spirits. Spiritomb was imprisoned within the Odd Keystone 500 years ago.

  • HP: 50
  • Attack: 92
  • Defense: 108
  • Special Attack: 92
  • Special Defense: 108
  • Speed: 35

Similar to Sableye, Spiritomb’s only weakness is the Fairy type. Unlike Sableye, however, Spiritomb doesn’t have any form of evolution or Mega Evolution. Many players would be inclined to choose Sableye over Spiritomb because of its Mega Evolution, but strong Trainers like Cynthia have shown Spiritomb’s true worth.

15

Maushold Is An Adorable New Normal Type That Shouldn’t Be Underestimated

Weak To: Fighting

Maushold in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Not only is Maushold such an adorable and intriguing concept for a Pokémon since it’s a family of mice that work together as one, but it has also quickly established itself as a mainstay on the Gen IX competitive scene. Maushold has a decent spread of stats, and can play as support, defense, or even offensively.

  • HP: 74
  • Attack: 75
  • Defense: 70
  • Special Attack: 65
  • Special Defense: 75
  • Speed: 111

To add to these pros further, Maushold is a pure Normal type, meaning that it only has to fear Fighting-type moves in terms of facing super effective damage. Maushold deserves to be included among the other big hitters of the franchise with very few weaknesses.

14

Skuntank Is One Of The Scarier Villainous Pokémon

Weak To: Ground

Skuntank flies through the air in the Pokemon anime

There are only seven Pokémon that are both Poison and Dark types. Of those seven, fourth generation Pokémon Skuntank and its previous form Stunky stand out among the older examples. Since Skuntank is a skunk Pokémon, it takes a brave Trainer to raise one, as it’s capable of spraying a repulsive-smelling fluid a staggering range of 160 feet.

  • HP: 103
  • Attack: 93
  • Defense: 67
  • Special Attack: 71
  • Special Defense: 61
  • Speed: 84

Skuntank’s Stench Ability can also cause an opposing Pokémon to flinch. This may be well worth the risk for some as Skuntank is only weak against Ground-types. On the bright side, its odor can be altered depending on its diet.

13

Swampert Is An Ideal Starter Pokémon

Weak To: Grass

May sits on Swampert's back In Pokemon

There are ten different types of Pokémon that are a combination of the Water and Ground types. Swampert is the most popular, as it’s fully evolved and powerful. This Pokémon can lift boulders and swim as fast as a water ski. Swampert is the final form of a starter Pokémon, too, making it easy to obtain.

  • HP: 100
  • Attack: 110
  • Defense: 90
  • Special Attack: 85
  • Special Defense: 90
  • Speed: 60

RELATED: Pokémon: Every Generation, Ranked By Their Starters

Even when it Mega Evolves, Swampert’s types don’t change. This means it’s only weak against Grass types. Thanks to this, Swampert is an excellent pick in the third generation games or their remakes.

12

Seismitoad’s Water/Ground Combination Makes It Especially Formidable

Weak To: Grass

Sean's Father's Seismitoad from Pokemon Black and White anime

Players without access to Swampert could consider other Water/Ground-type Pokémon. One easy choice would be the Tympole line, which culminates with the powerful Seismitoad at level 36. It’s not just Water and Ground moves Seismitoad can utilize, either. With the Poison Touch Ability, Seismitoad can poison an opposing Pokémon even without any Poison attacks.

  • HP: 105
  • Attack: 95
  • Defense: 75
  • Special Attack: 85
  • Special Defense: 75
  • Speed: 74

Like Swampert, Seismitoad’s only weakness is the Grass-type. Seismitoad also has high HP, Attack, and Special Attack stats, which is similar to Swampert. Unfortunately for Seismitoad, it can’t Mega Evolve as Swampert can.

11

Scizor Is A Cool Steel/Bug Type

Weak To: Fire

Scizor stands in front of a wall in the Pokemon anime

Scizor is one of six Pokémon that are Bug/Steel types. Even its Mega Evolution retains these types. Scizor and Mega Scizor are superior to their first form Scyther and its other evolutionary branch Kleavor because they’re only weak to Fire.

  • HP: 70
  • Attack: 130
  • Defense: 100
  • Special Attack: 55
  • Special Defense: 80
  • Speed: 65

Scizor has a body as durable as steel, and it uses its wings to keep its body from overheating and melting. This is crucial since even the Pokémon’s muscles are comprised solely of metal. As long as a Trainer isn’t fighting a Fire-type Pokémon, Scizor is a great pick.

10

Overqwil Was A Cool Addition In Legends Arceus

Weak To: Ground

Hisuian Qwilfish and Hisuian Overqwil in Pokemon Legends Arceus

One of the best elements of recent Pokémon games is the introduction of regional variants. These regional variants breathe new life into classic Pokémon by giving them a fresh new look and typing. One of these Pokémon that benefited from a regional variant is the second generation’s Qwilfish.

  • HP: 85
  • Attack: 115
  • Defense: 95
  • Special Attack: 65
  • Special Defense: 65
  • Speed: 85

Hisuian Qwilfish, introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, keeps its Poison typing while replacing its Water typing with Dark typing. This means it’s only weak to Ground-type moves. The perks of being a regional variant don’t end there. Qwilfish finally has an evolution, Overqwil, which maintains the same typing.

9

Alolan Muk Was A Creative New Twist On The Gen I Poison Type

Weak To: Ground

Alolan Muk stands behind Kanto Muk in the Pokemon anime

When Muk is in the Alola region, it experiences some surprising changes. Its body changes from purple to a rainbow hue that resembles the sheen in oil due to the hundreds of poisons in its body, but it also grows claws and teeth that are crystallized poison.

  • HP: 105
  • Attack: 105
  • Defense: 75
  • Special Attack: 65
  • Special Defense: 100
  • Speed: 50

RELATED: 10 Coolest Gen 9 Pokémon Designs In Scarlet & Violet

Most importantly, Muk changes from a Poison-type to a Poison/Dark-type Pokémon. This combination makes Alolan Muk weak only to Ground-types, and unlike Kanto’s Muk, the Alolan version is immune to Psychic moves. Already a powerful Pokémon in Kanto, Muk’s Alolan variant is even more powerful thanks to its limited weaknesses.

8

Wash Rotom Dominates With Levitate

Weak To: Grass

Wash Rotom raises its arms in the Pokemon anime

Wash Rotom is a form of Rotom once it possesses a washing machine. Doing so makes Wash Rotom a Water/Electric-type Pokémon. Chinchou and Lanturn are also Water/Electric types, but unlike Rotom, they’re weak to Ground-type moves.

  • HP: 50
  • Attack: 65
  • Defense: 107
  • Special Attack: 105
  • Special Defense: 107
  • Speed: 86

Rotom is immune to Ground-type moves because it has the Ability Levitate, keeping its body floating in the air. This means Wash Rotom is only weak to Grass-type moves. Wash Rotom is the Rotom’s most competitively viable version and is worth a look for any competitive player.

7

Genesect Is The Tough Mythical With One Solitary Weakness

Weak To: Fire

Genesect Army readying an attack in the Pokémon anime.

Genesect is a Mythical Pokémon first introduced in the fifth generation. Genesect was an ancient Pokémon that was revived by Team Plasma and built into a mechanized Pokémon for the purpose of gaining power. Because of these modifications, Genesect is a Bug/Steel-type Pokémon.

  • HP: 71
  • Attack: 120
  • Defense: 95
  • Special Attack: 120
  • Special Defense: 95
  • Speed: 99

Genesect’s only weakness is Fire-type moves, which do four times as much damage thanks to both Bug and Steel being weak to Fire. Genesect’s signature move, Techno Blast, can change typings based on the Drive installed into Genesect. This can provide the player with an immense advantage for an anticipated battle.

6

Trash Cloak Wormadam Is A Surprisingly Tough Opponent

Weak To: Fire

Wormadam in trash cloak in the Pokemon anime

Wormadam is a Bug-type Pokémon that gains a secondary type depending on what kind of cloak it has on. While Wormadam is in its Trash Cloak, it’s a Bug/Steel type. This form is permanent. But compared to its Sandy Cloak, which has four weaknesses, and its Plant Cloak, which has six weaknesses, the Trash Cloak is superior.

  • HP: 60
  • Attack: 69
  • Defense: 95
  • Special Attack: 69
  • Special Defense: 95
  • Speed: 36

In this form, Wormadam has only a single weakness to Fire types. Its limited weaknesses in this form make Wormadam more appealing than Burmy’s other final evolution, Mothim.

5

Dudunsparce Is The Long-Awaited Evolution Form For Dunsparce

Weak To: Fighting

Dudunsparce in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

The Gen II Normal type Dunsparce is one of several older Pokémon to get an evolution in Gen IX with Dudunsparce. As far as designs go, it is one of the least inventive or especially memorable, but the improvement on the base stat total makes it more usable in battle.

  • HP: 125
  • Attack: 100
  • Defense: 80
  • Special Attack: 85
  • Special Defense: 75
  • Speed: 55

RELATED: Pokémon: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Bug Types

As a Normal type, Dudunsparce only has one weakness: Fighting-type moves. While it doesn’t pose too much of a threat, its signature move Hyper Drill can pack a punch when paired with its impressive Attack stat. Dudunsparce won’t see much use on the competitive scene any time soon, but it still has a place in Pokémon.

4

Hisuian Zoroark Finally Debuted The Ghost/Normal Combination

Weak To: Dark

Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark in Pokemon Legends Arceus

One of the latest dual types introduced is the Normal/Ghost typing. In any other regard, Normal and Ghost act as the antithesis of one another. Ghost moves have no effect on Normal Pokémon and vice versa. The two Pokémon boasting this new typing are two of the best new Hisuian variants, Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark.

  • HP: 55
  • Attack: 100
  • Defense: 60
  • Special Attack: 125
  • Special Defense: 60
  • Speed: 110

With this typing, Fighting-type moves have no effect. Likewise, Ghost-type moves no longer have any effect, making them super effective against Ghost-type Pokémon. Hisuian Zorua and Hisuian Zoroark’s lone weakness is Dark-type moves, which carry over from their Ghost typing.

3

Eelektross Negates Its Sole Weakness With Levitate

Weak To: None

Eelektross posing in a stadium in the Pokemon anime

Eelektrik and its evolved form Eelektross are the only Pokémon with absolutely no weaknesses. There isn’t even a Mythical or Legendary type Pokémon with this distinction. Electric Pokémon usually have a weakness to Ground moves, but since Eelektross has the Ability Levitate, the weakness no longer applies.

  • HP: 85
  • Attack: 115
  • Defense: 80
  • Special Attack: 105
  • Special Defense: 80
  • Speed: 50

RELATED: 10 Hardest Pokémon Battles In The Games, Ranked

This Pokémon may look frightening, but for any Trainer who wants a Pokémon with no type weaknesses, the fully evolved Eelektross is the perfect fit for any team. Equipped with its high physical and Special Attack stats, it packs a mean punch.

2

Mismagius Is Terrifying With Levitate & An Electric Tera Type

Weak To: None

Mismagius's Pokedex entry in Pokemon Violet

The Gen IX games have introduced the Terastal phenomenon, and while many view it as an offensive tool in battle, it has various uses as a defensive shield for Pokémon of certain types. Any Pokémon with the Levitate Ability can simply be given the Electric Tera type, leaving them with no type weaknesses.

  • HP: 60
  • Attack: 60
  • Defense: 60
  • Special Attack: 105
  • Special Defense: 105
  • Speed: 105

In Scarlet & Violet, Levincia Gym Leader Iono showcases this use of Terastallization with her ace Mismagius, making it a tricky obstacle for players to overcome. This strategy makes other Levitate species like Hydreigon, Haunter, and Cryogonal Pokémon with no weaknesses.

1

Electric Tera Orthworm Eats Up Its Only Weakness With Its Signature Ability

Weak To: None

Orthworm From Pokemon Scarlet And Violet

In a similar vein to utilizing the Electric Tera typing on a Levitate Pokémon, the same can be done with Orthworm and its Earth Eater Ability. In Orthworm’s case, the sole weakness of Ground would instead serve to heal it rather than missing completely.

  • HP: 70
  • Attack: 85
  • Defense: 145
  • Special Attack: 60
  • Special Defense: 55
  • Speed: 65

As Orthworm is a Steel type without the use of Terastallization, Ground-type moves are an active threat, so switching to this Electric Earth Eater strategy when facing a Ground-type Pokémon could be a stroke of genius. Unfortunately, Orthworm’s base Speed, Special Defense, and HP leave a lot to be desired, and without some significant stat-boosting, it could be wiped out with relative ease.
