20 Cheapest Convertibles for 2023 – TrueCar
The Ford Mustang is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-door with sporty bucket seats up front and tighter seats in the rear. That’s how it was 60 years ago, and that’s how it is today. With its long hood and short rear deck, the Mustang has a classic sports coupe profile, and it looks good even in low-level trims. It also has the distinction of being one of the few remaining cars offered by the company that created the Model T.
For 2023, Ford is bypassing changes to the Mustang in anticipation of a significantly revised 2024 model. Because of its style and history, the Ford Mustang is one of those rare vehicles to succeed across a wide price spread. A basic Mustang EcoBoost Fastback starts at less than $30,000, while the high-performance Mach 1 has a base price of nearly $60,000. Options can push that price far higher.
In a market dominated by crossover SUVs, the Mustang has only two head-to-head competitors. The Chevrolet Camaro is most similar to the Mustang, and the two models compete in NASCAR racing as well as in the showroom. The Dodge Challenger is another performance-oriented rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, but it is larger than the Mustang and offers more interior space. In overall length, the Mustang is the same size as the Camaro but almost 10 inches shorter than the Challenger. The Mustang and Camaro are available in coupe and convertible versions, while the Challenger is only offered as a coupe.
