19 Best Digital Nomad Blogs and Podcasts – Travel Lemming

I had always wondered how people started traveling long-term, and I spent years reading a ton of digital nomad blogs before taking the leap myself.

Following nomad bloggers and podcasters is a great way to get a sense of the nomad life before diving in – and a great way to feel connected to the broader digital nomad community after you take the leap.

Since digital nomad blogs helped me decide to start pursuing the nomadic lifestyle, I figured you might find them inspirational too.

So to help inspire you, here’s our round-up of some of the best digital nomad blogs on the world wide web to follow in 2020 and beyond:

Alajode was started by Jodie who quit her job in 2017 with a one-way ticket to Malaysia and has been traveling the world ever since.

She shares practical advice and tips for making the most out of your travels. She also has some great posts about safaris in Africa with information that is hard to find on other digital nomad blogs.

She also shares about her life on the road and the reality of living a nomadic lifestyle.

Travel Lemming

Travel Lemming digital nomad blog

Yes, we’re unabashedly putting ourselves on our own list of the best digital nomad blogs (hey, it’s our list!).

What’s Travel Lemming anyway?

Well, Travel Lemming was founded by Nate Hake, a lawyer-turned traveler who has been traveling the world since 2016 (you can read Nate’s full story about becoming a digital nomad here).

Travel Lemming’s main focus is on emerging and underappreciated travel destinations, but our team of writers also write about digital nomad issues such as how to start a travel blog.

Location Indie

Location Indie website digital nomad travel blog

Location Indie is definitely one of the best and most popular digital nomad blogs out there. Trav and Jason started it when they realized having a community was the key to happiness and success.

In addition to the site, they run a private community to connect with other traveling nomads.

They also provide monthly events, expert workshops, training, in-person meetups, and masterminds.

You don’t have to join the private community to get their advice though! The blog has a lot of great information on living a nomadic life. (They also have a podcast, but I’ll talk more about that later!)

Here are a couple of fan-favorite articles:

Taxes are probably one of the biggest headaches that you will come across as you make money online while traveling.

As a digital nomad, it can quickly get complicated to figure out where to pay taxes and how much you owe.

Luckily for us, Andrew Henderson started Nomad Capitalist, where he shares all the ways expats could reduce their tax amount and build wealth.

This digital nomad blog shares a lot of free information on legal tax reduction, residency, and more.

Technology is essential for digital nomads, and electronics are probably the most important part of any digital nomad packing list.

Not only is technology a lifeline to your income, it’s also crucial for staying connected with friends and family abroad.

Too Many Adapters dedicates their time to reviewing technology for travelers. Their blog contains reviews on everything from drones, SIM cards, phones, and so much more.

I would recommend checking out this blog if you want advice on what tech is best for your traveling needs.

My Expat Taxes

My Expat Taxes website landing page

Are you from the US?

Then you know that the US enforces a citizen-based taxation system. For as long as you hold an American passport, you’ll file for taxes even if you live abroad for decades.

It’s a complicated system, and it’s not like they teach you tax law in school.

My Expat Taxes is one of the few digital nomad blogs that discusses how to file taxes as an American living abroad. They give you lots of tips on how to file and what deductions you might qualify for on your taxes.

Best Digital Nomad Podcasts

Digital nomad blogs are plentiful, but are you more of a podcast person?

Luckily, there are a lot of digital nomad podcasts too!

Here are our some of our favorite digital nomad podcasts:

Extra Pack of Peanuts

Extra Pack of Peanuts digital nomad podcast website

Extra Pack of Peanuts is one of the highest-rated travel podcasts – if not the single highest rated one altogether.

The hosts are Travis and Heather, a married couple who has been seeing the world since 2010.

The podcast covers destinations, travel hacks, and interviews with other digital nomads.

One of the most popular segments is “Destination Diary,” where a specific city gets highlighted, and the best places to stay, the best things to do, and the best food are discussed.

There are hundreds of episodes covering every travel topic. It’s one of the most in-depth digital nomad podcasts for that reason.

Our own founder at Travel Lemming, Nate Hake, was interviewed on an episode a couple years ago.

Check out a few of their popular podcast episodes:

The Location Indie Podcast

If “Location Indie” sounds familiar, it’s also because they made our best digital nomad blogs list.

The hosts are Trav (who also hosts the Extra Pack of Peanuts podcast) and Jason (who also hosts the Zero to Travel podcast that I’ll talk more about later).

They are pretty busy, as you can tell ; )

Anyway, the podcast gives you a behind-the-scenes look of what it is like to be a digital nomad.

The main goal of the podcast is to show you how you can have freedom over your location, time, and finances. It covers everything from remote work, online business, travel, and lifestyle design.

They also interview members from the Location Indie community. The discussion on living a digital nomad life is incredibly useful.

Here are some of the recent digital nomad podcast episodes:

The Globetrotter Lounge Podcast

The host of The Globetrotter Lounge Podcast is Lisette Austin (aka Jet Set Lisette).

Take a listen to a few of these digital nomad podcasts:

Zero to Travel Podcast

The first travel podcast I ever listened to was the Zero to Travel podcast. I was blown away by how much digital nomad content they had.

They’ve been around since 2013, so they have hundreds of episodes.

There is travel advice for everyone, from newbies to seasoned digital nomads. You’ll find subjects like trip planning, destinations, culture, and digital nomad tips.

The podcasts are lengthy as many of them are well over an hour, and some of them are even over two hours long.

Here are some new digital nomad podcasts:

Indie Travel Podcast

Indie Travel Podcast has been around for almost a decade. The hosts are New Zealand couple, Craig and Linda. They have been traveling since 2006, so it’s safe to say they know the pros and cons of a digital nomad lifestyle.

They cover different ways to travel like Couchsurfing, pet sitting, and more. They also provide travel tips for different regions and personal situations.

That Remote Show

That Remote Show digital nomad podcast website

Sure we’re a little biased because Mitko is a good friend of Nate, the founder of this blog, from their time together in Budapest. Nate even went on one of the first episodes.

But we really think That Remote Show is the best new digital nomad podcast of the last year.

Mitko is friendly, charming, and always quick to cut out the bulls**t (and, believe us, there’s a lot of that in digital nomad circles these days).
