Many are popular among huge, wide audiences and are highly appreciated, like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. However, many are very weird, making even niche users wonder why they paid for them, or why they spend time playing a free game that is so strange they can’t talk about it to their friends.
Updated April 10, 2022 by Ryan Bamsey: One of the most fun things to do these days is finding the weirdest games around and giving them a go, and often, you’ll be surprised at how fun they really are. We’ve added some more of our favorite weird games that we were able to find.

The Binding Of Isaac
Have you ever played a game where you control a small child who attacks by crying? If not, then you haven’t played the Binding of Isaac. This game is a twin-stick shooter roguelike in which you control Isaac, an abused child who makes his way down through his basement and the layers beneath in fear of his mom.
Known for its odd humor, questionable taste levels, and terribly fun gameplay, TBOI ends up being one of the weirdest games that you really can’t put down.
If a person never experienced being stood up on a date, Dinner Date is here to change things. Although the name might fool some, the game is all about being stood up. The player stays in a restaurant and waits for a date that never actually comes.

Dinner Date has a weird premise as the player just sits at a table. He vaguely interacts with what he is thinking and ends up having numerous self-doubting monologues. Although the game is short, it manages to create an atmosphere that is very hard to deal with.

There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension
This game tried to convince you that there is no game, but it’s very bad at it. This point-and-click puzzle adventure through various digital worlds is full to the brim with snappy humor, geeky references, and lots of, yes, games.
The gameplay largely revolves around doing all you can to play a game that the game itself does not want you to play, and involves lots of interface puzzles and meta-commentary on game development. All of this is underlined by a one-sided dialogue with a narrator who has an impenetrable accent that the game itself makes fun of. There Is No Game is, funnily enough, a blast to play.

The Graveyard
The Graveyard is better described as a visual novel than a game. You play as an old woman that visits a graveyard. Nothing else has to be said about the three minutes game. Your goal is to beat the game but nobody knows what this actually means.
You can enjoy the experience of The Graveyard for free but if you pay a few bucks for the full version, there is one extra addition: the old woman can die. This does not happen every single time though. The full version of the game simply adds this possibility. Thrilling stuff.

Granny Simulator
There are many really good simulators on Steam but this one can only be described as weird. There are two characters to can choose from. One is an old grandmother. Her goal is to finish her daily routines. The other one is the grandson. He uses violence and brutality in order to stop her grandmother from finishing her tasks.
Granny Simulator uses a really simple energy-based system. The grandson is actively trying to kill his grandmother so do not be surprised to see that the old woman fights back from time to time.

Watching Grass Grow In VR – The Game
The premise of having a game in which you have to watch grass grow is enough to make it weird but this Steam game tames everything to a whole new level. You need a virtual reality headset to enjoy it, although the graphics are much more similar to Minecraft than real life.

Another thing that is really weird is that as you watch the grass grow, you need to defend it. The player uses rocket launchers and other weapons to fight others, all so that his/her grass is the best in the entire world.
6
Hatoful Boyfriend
This might very well be the weirdest dating sim on Steam ever. The premise is that you are accepted at St. PigeoNation’s Institute, which is a school for the most talented birds. The catch is that you are the only human that is studying there. Your goal is to study and actually fall in love.
If you ever go on a date with a pigeon, you have to figure out what to do in order for the experience to be a pleasant one. Players take sides and their decisions influence relationships.
5
Shower With Your Dad Simulator 2015
Shower With Your Dad Simulator 2015 is the definition of a weird game you never thought was listed on Steam. It’s in a stunning 8-bit style and offers different, thrilling gameplay modes. In all of them, your goal is to shower with the appropriate dad. There are three dad and son pairings that are possible.
The game quickly gained a small cult following, with players asking for the 2020 version through comments and reviews listed on Steam. You can also watch censored gameplay on YouTube but for the full “experience” of showering with the dads in the game, you need to get the Steam version.
4
I Am Bread
It is not a surprise to see another simulator on this list of weirdest games to play on Steam. In I Am Bread you play as a slice of bread. Your mission is to become toast. In order to do this, you go through an obstacle course in the kitchen and you try to avoid countless dangers that can stop you.
At first glance, I Am Bread is a very simple game but as you tackle the more difficult levels, you quickly figure out how difficult everything can become. When you get stressed though, you can always play a fast Bagel Race game mode, which is also weird.
3
Only If
Only If is a first-person adventure game that features puzzle elements. You wake up after a party in a bed you do not know and your memory was lost. You have to escape the surroundings but this is much more complicated than it seems.

The stressful part of the game is that players do end up dying a lot. This is because mechanics are unpredictable and experimental. Logic does not always help and in order to make the right choice, you often have to make the wrong choice. Fortunately, you will not lose much sleep over the game since it is available for free.
2
The Cat Lady
The Cat Lady is a game that starts after the main character, Susan Ashworth, dies by suicide. In order for Susan to die, she needs to face 5 strangers that were chosen by an entity met after death. Basically, this is a psychological horror game that is suspenseful and includes really good acting and an atmospheric soundtrack.
In this game, you will find numerous things that might shock you and the experience is intense. Simply because you were alone with your cats, you were chosen to be a weapon of killing for a superior entity that does not let you die.
1
Aviary Attorney
Aviary Attorney is a short adventure/mystery game with a unique setting and style. The action happens in the year 1848 in Paris, a city close to a revolution. Your character is Monsieur Jayjay Falcon, a bird of prey. In this game you are a bird that does not really have lawyering experience but ends up collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and representing clients in front of a judge.
What is particularly interesting with Aviary Attorney is the art and the combination with a very good soundtrack. The game is as weird as it gets with animals living like humans but chances are, you will enjoy the experience.
