It’s been a long time since we last wrote anything about Vietnam, I think the time is ripe for another article covering Vietnam, this time it will be about the food. Since we wrote about Website Design in Vietnam, this time I want to check all the top food websites in Vietnam and judge them based on their contents, design, and usability. I will intentionally skip the huge commercial sites such as foody.vn, lozi.vn and will only focus on the food blog websites since they reflect a truer image of Vietnam’s food and culture.

Food is something, which reminds you of the culture and traditions of your home. Each place that we visit has a definite cuisine and procedure for preparing that. It is the case with Vietnamese cuisines. However, today we are going to discuss the design and the navigability of a famous Vietnamese food blog. Let’s have a look at the top 10 Vietnamese food blogs and check out how good are they. It should be noted that some of these websites are not created and hosted in Vietnam.

1. Saigoneer

This blog deals with not only the Vietnamese cuisines but also the Cajun cuisines. Additionally, it also contains different news and cultures of Vietnam. When it comes to the design, it’s easy to navigate through. While it doesn’t invoke a hunger in the person browsing the site, the viewers can easily go to different tabs and choose what they want to see without any hassle.

The color combination of sea green texts on a white background makes it pleasant to look at. With three columns of text and pictures, the design is on the cleaner side. However, on top, it looks a bit clumsy with all the text and pictures. All in all, it doesn’t look too bad, or too good even.

2. Viet World Kitchen

This blog looks too much like a personal blog and doesn’t have any glamour. While it is easy for viewers to scroll through the site, and search whatever they want, the option of sharing content on social media is not available. Additionally, the font on the homepage is a bit small, which makes it difficult for the viewers to read. The brown-colored logo on top shows that the author has not given much thought to this blog, making it just a daily chore and not a hobby she is passionate about.

3. Eat, Little Bird

Based out of Zurich, Switzerland, this blog deals with easy-to-make Vietnamese recipes. The layout of the blog follows a minimalistic pattern with a white background. Additionally, there are two columns and then a row of all the popular posts. For anyone looking to scroll through minimalistic designs, this is an ideal blog. It might work well for a photography site, however, the theme is not suitable for a food blog, as it is missing the hunger-inducing colors like red, orange, or yellow.

4. La Kitchenette de Miss Tam

La Kitchenette de Miss Tam translates to Miss Tam’s kitchen. This blog deals with not only recipes and Vietnamese cuisine, but also cooking classes. With 5809 Facebook fans and 948 Twitter followers, this seems to be a somewhat popular blog.

To help Vietnamese people understand, the blog is written in Vietnam. While this is a good option for Vietnamese people, it is bad for people who don’t know how to read Vietnamese. Additionally, the design of the blog is not professional enough. It consists of a sidebar, a search button on the top, and a blog post that has been published. It also seems that the author didn’t give much effort towards making the site look good.

5. Oi Vietnam

This site deals with not only food but anything related to Vietnam. The site is easy to navigate and the featured post on the top adds a great look to the site. One more interesting feature of the site is that the background color is black, which makes it look attractive and stellar.

All in all, this is a site that is best in design and its outlook. It can be seen that the owner of the site paid attention to the design and made it attractive enough to retain the visitors.

6. The Viet Vegan

Xin Chao is the author of this blog and has a picture of her in the top left corner. This website has a left sidebar and deals with vegan culture, vegan diet, and Vietnamese cuisines. The design of the blog isn’t something special, and it doesn’t have any other sidebar. Also, it seems that the author has put very little effort into the building of the blog.

7. Run Away Rice

As the name suggests, this blog includes traditional Vietnamese recipes with a twist. One of the minus points of the site is that an advertisement covers the bottom part of the site, making it hard to read from mobile devices.

The blog includes a right sidebar and a kitchen calculator, which makes it easier for anyone to convert cups to grams and tablespoons to milliliters easily. The placement of the ads, however, could have been better on this site. Moreover, the background is white, and doesn’t invoke feelings of hunger, and fails to keep the visitor’s attention for too long.

8. Ba Bar

Ba Bar is a Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle. Considering their business front, the blog of the site looks something special. With a black background and white borders, the chic and elegant design reminds us of the inside atmosphere of a bar, while adding to the beauty. Additionally, this website has a serene effect on the viewers, due to its cool colors, making it one of the best designs among the several food blogs of Vietnam.

9. Vicky Pham

This website looks like traditional food blogs, with just a banner image, a search button on top, and subscribe button below that. Additionally, you can also check out the different social media profiles of this blog. This blog doesn’t look like much effort has been added in its creation and a total does-over might make it look better than it is now.

10. La Maison du Vietnam

Based out of France, this blog deals with Vietnamese cuisines and helps everyone learn the different recipes. Not only does it contain the different recipes but culinary arts, and ideas for better cooking. However, the design of the blog is nothing special and needs a total do-over. Now that you know about these different food blogs of Vietnam, it is time to check out the recipes and do something new. For some sites, you might find it easy to go through, while some will be tough. However, the pain of browsing through multiple sites is worth it, when you prepare a dish flawlessly.
