XTV is an American free-the-air commercial television network owned by Premiere Media and East Coast Broadcasting Company. The network was launched on September 19, 2017.

History

Hearing of the closure of Warner Bros. Television Network and merger with The WB, WXBS-LD of Roanoke, Virginia wanted to start a new network to replace WBTV on its schedule. The reason for this was because WTJA-DT2 already signed an agreement to secure the WB affiliation for the market. On June 23, 2017, plans were altered and WXBS will be affiliating with The WB according to plans set forth by the network. WTJA-DT2 will pick up the XTV affiliation. Star Family Television Group (owners of WXBS-LD) first approached Graham Media Group to start a new network, mainly meant for digital subchannels (.2 or lower.) Graham later dropped out of the deal for unknown reasons. Star later approached East Coast Broadcasting Company to continue on with the plan of a new multicast network. The result was XTV, a network focused on music videos, TV shows, and movies from the 80’s-2000’s, with limited 50’s-70’s content.

The original launch date was September 19th, but it was moved 2 days earlier to September 17th.

On June 10th, 2017, the plans for XTV’s programming were altered slightly. Instead of doing reruns of older shows, ECBC/SFMG decided that XTV will produce it’s own programming outside of scheduled music video blocks.

On July 3rd, 2017, it was decided that XTV will become an entertainment network.

Premiere Media bought XTV in 2018.
