About the Exam

The TOEIC exams are used by companies worldwide to help corporate leaders determine which employees possess strong written and oral communication skills needed to interact with clients, vendors and fellow workers. The Speaking and Writing exam are separate tests, and test-takers will receive separate scores for both parts. The exam is administered online. In the Speaking test, examinees must speak aloud as prompted on the screen, which includes picture descriptions, text readings and question responses. The Writing portion requires that test-takers write a one-sentence description of a picture as well as a response and an essay. The Speaking test contains 11 questions, while the Writing test has eight questions. The time to complete the Speaking test is 20 minutes, while those taking the Writing exam have 60 minutes to complete the entire test. Both tests are scored on a scale of 0-200, though the test measures ability only and no passing or failing scores are established.
