How to Establish a Point to Point WiFi Network

Click the “Start” button in the lower left corner of the screen on the computer that will host the network.

Click “Control Panel” on the Start menu.

Type “network” in the search field in the upper right corner of the control panel window. Click “Network and Sharing Center,” then click “Set up a new connection or network.” Click “Set up a wireless ad-hoc (computer-to-computer) network,” then click “Next.” The connection setup wizard will now begin and will ask you a few questions to set up the network.

Type in the name of the ad-hoc network when the wizard asks so the joining computer can find it. Type in a password if security is desired for the network. Once the connection is established, the other computer may join the ad-hoc network by selecting the available wireless connections icon in the lower right corner of the screen, locating the name of the network, and clicking on it. If a password was established by the host computer, the joining computer user must enter the password before joining the network.

Click the “Start” menu on the computer that’s joining the network. Click “Computer.” On the left panel in this window, the host computer can be located. Click on the icon representing the host computer’s file system to access it.
