The Electric Company | Sesame Workshop
Feel the Power!
A modern re-boot of the classic Emmy Award-winning Sesame Workshop series from the 1970s, The Electric Company invites young viewers along on the adventures of four friends who use their unique superpowers to vanquish opponents, teaching children age 6-10 important language skills along the way.
As with the original, the show uses comedy, animation, and music videos to teach crucial skills that can pose challenges to early readers, like decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, and reading motivation. In the newer incarnation, each episode also features a storyline designed to teach new vocabulary words with a mix of hip-hop and contemporary R&B-style music.
Meet The Electric Company
Hector, Jessica, Keith, and Lisa are tween literacy heroes who must battle neighborhood foes known as the Pranksters. Their headquarters is the Electric Diner, which is also home to their friend Shock, a beat-boxing short order cook who helps the friends deliver unforgettable lessons in phonics, grammar, and language rules. Each member of the Company has a special skill, like Hector’s ability to replay any image he sees, or Lisa’s power to unscramble any anagram–and all have the power to throw wordballs, magical blue balls that create words on any surface.
Two 26-episode seasons available on HBO Max welcome today’s young viewers into the fast-paced, musical fun of the franchise that has entertained two generations.
