Sex in the Driveway drink recipe

The Sex in the Driveway drink is a variation on the Sex on the Beach drink recipe. The main difference is the stunning bright blue color and a shift in fruit flavors.

This drink is very much a blend of the flavors of peach, orange and lemon-lime. It is definitely a little bit on the sweeter side, with the fruity orange flavor from the blue curacao.

But the Sprite adds a nice lemon-lime tartness to it. And the soda bubbles give it a lighter feel that makes it refreshing.

All in all, it’s a delicious fruity vodka drink that’s not overly sweet. The crushed ice keeps it chilled while the bubbles give it some zing. There’s everything to love about this drink. (If you don’t have a refrigerator that makes crushed ice, a countertop ice maker that does nugget ice works great.)

Why would you want to learn to make this drink? Because it tastes delicious, it’s incredibly easy to make, and it looks gorgeous.

The Sex in the Driveway is also a strong drink, but not as strong as, say, the Long Island Iced Tea. It’s basically a double.

That makes it less ideal for, say, a brunch or any remotely formal party involving people you don’t know. This is a great drink for casual get-togethers with old friends.

For occasional or light drinkers, it can sneak up on them. But for regular drinkers, it’s a decent amount of alcohol you can feel without being enough to make you say something regrettable.

And because it’s a long drink – which is to say, there’s plenty of mixer to go with the liquors – it takes a while to drink it. You’re also drinking mixers along with every sip of it to dilute the effect of the alcohol.

That makes this cocktail more of a long, thirst-quenching treat than a drink designed to knock you off your feet. It’s delicious enough to savor as you while away some time.

It’s also a relatively hydrating cocktail. That is, compared to other drink recipes. You don’t want to replace your after workout drink with it.

But it does makes it a good choice for an evening of dancing. Or a hot day by the pool.

This is also a great drink for a very hot day. Between the citrus notes and the carbonation, it has a bracing feel that’s especially welcome on a hot day.

Try this one next time you’re poolside or having cocktails at a barbecue. This drink is perfect for barbecues because it has a light feel that seems to cut through greasy and heavy foods.

If you want to make a little more “upscale” version of this drink, you could substitute lemon-lime sparkling water (or a combination of lemon and lime, depending on the brand you choose). 

You could also use plain sparkling water with a good squeeze of lemon and lime juice – half of each, if they’re average sized. However you choose to make this one, it’s a hard drink to dislike. You can expect most anyone you’re entertaining to enjoy this drink.

It goes well with lots of foods because the flavor is mainly citrus and peach. That makes it easy to enjoy with almost anything, even heavy and greasy dishes.

You can also enjoy this one alongside slow cooker barbecued ribs. The flavor is perfect, and the drink is light enough to balance the heavier food.

This is a drink that’s great for parties because there’s no shaking or mixing. You can even pre-mix a big batch in a pitcher of everything but the Sprite.

Then each refill is just a matter of pouring in roughly equal amounts of from the pitcher and from a bottle of soda.

And actually, you can mix the Sprite in the pitcher too, as long as you’re keeping it in the fridge and serving it within a few hours. Any longer than that, and it might go flat.

You could also let guests serve themselves. Just put the mixture – soda included – into a beverage server shortly before serving.

That way, guests can serve themselves and top off as needed. That way no one has to play bartender all through the party.

We like the look of this drink served in a straight Highball Glass. The glass has nothing to distract from the vibrant blue color.
