The sun is shining, school is out, and what better way to start our look at volunteer vacation opportunities today!

We asked our listeners to tell us about a time that they volunteered abroad to make the world a better place. Over the next two weeks we’ll hear some of their responses.

We’re calling it My Global Activism Vacation series, after our 5-year running weekly Global Activism series.

Mark Kenseth volunteered for six-months on organic farms in
New Zealand and
Australia in 2004 and 2005.

He worked for an organization called World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF). The organization facilitates the placement of volunteers on organic farms around the world. The farms provide the volunteers with food and housing, and in return the volunteers work as farmhands.

Mark Kenseth told me how he got involved with WWOOF.
