Microphone, 3DIO Free Space Binaural
The 3Dio Free Space binaural microphone is an affordable, high-quality binaural microphone comprising Primo EM172 microphone capsules embedded inside two prosthetic ears. This allows users to capture sound just as we would naturally hear it and enable you to pinpoint the sound location in space.
The 3Dio Free Space has a very warm and solid response in low to mid-range frequencies and also provides low-end support for bass-heavy sounds. The frequency response of the EM172 capsules rolls off slightly above 10kHz making them excellent for recording instruments with loud high frequencies; e.g. drum cymbals or strummed acoustic guitars. It also prevents any harsh effects sometimes associated with binaural recordings using smaller capsules.
3DIO manufacture premium quality 3D audio recording devices that are popular with professional recording engineers as well as amateur enthusiasts. Binaural recording is the process using microphones shaped like human ears to capture audio in the same way that we hear. These ears (pinnae) dramatically alter the incoming sound waves, however the human brain understands and interprets these alterations as directional cues. Furthermore, the time delay between the left and right ear gives us proper directional perception. When listening to binaural recordings with headphones, a natural three-dimensional sound gives the listener the sensation of being in the space where the audio was recorded. This makes the 3DIO binaural microphones ideal for applications such as 360 and 180 VR video and any professional recording situation where authentic sound quality is critical.
