Medium Blog Pricing: How Much Does Medium Cost?

What’s the Medium blog pricing for those who are interested in starting a blog on Medium.com?

It’s free.

That’s the blog post.

Well, it’s slightly more complicated than that, so I’ll go into it further.

Medium Is Free To Use For Writers

If you want to publish on Medium, it’s free to create a profile and publish your blog posts. All you have to do is create an account, and you’re rolling.

This is where Medium has a leg up on solutions like Wordpress. To start a blog outside of Medium, you need to pay for domain names and monthly hosting. This can easily lead to hundreds of dollars spent per year, but if you only publish via Medium, there are no blogging costs involved.

Medium Is Not Free For Readers

If you want to read on Medium, that’s where you’ll have to pay. Most stories on Medium.com are locked, meaning you’ll need a Medium Membership to read them. However, if you just want to publish, you do NOT need to have a Medium subscription.

Why I Pay For A Membership As A Writer

Even though there is no Medium blog pricing plan, I still pay my $5 per month Membership fee to Medium. Why? Because I want this site to prosper. I know $5 per month isn’t exactly going to save it from bankruptcy, but I’m doing my part.

The fact is, it costs a lot of money to run a website as complicated as Medium.

My $5 per month can help offset their hosting/server costs, and I almost look at that as the real Medium blog pricing plan..

Pay $5 to write on Medium and support a platform that literally pays you and doesn’t ask for anything in return.

So as you can see, Medium costs nothing, and there is no Medium blog pricing to speak of.
