Maddie Ziegler reunites with Sia for ‘Cheap Thrills’ music video
It’s a big month for Maddie Ziegler! After the news broke that she would be joining Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo as a judge on this season’s revamped So You Think You Can Dance, she’s making headlines again with Sia’s new music video.
On Monday, March 21, the teen dance phenomenon once again took over the limelight when Sia’s hit song “Cheap Thrills” released its music video. Ziegler, age 13, was once again cast as the lead dancer and is seen donning a nude jumpsuit, similar to the one she wore in the Australian singer’s “Chandelier” last year. She’s also sporting a black and white bob along with an interesting back-skirt attachment. [Watch the music video below.]
The music video was directed by Sia and fellow Aussie Daniel Askill. In addition to these two, creative direction was lent by “Chandelier” choreographer Ryan Heffington, who has also created movement for Swedish pop star Lykke Li, Florence and the Machine, and FKA twigs. Last April, Heffington told Vogue, “I feel like [my experience has] kind of created a new genre of what can be a music video… I think I’m bringing something possibly new to the art form.”
Read more about the “Cheap Thrills” project in this E Online article, which describes the song as having “a bit of a summer in the Caribbean feel.” It’s clear that the Maddie and Sia collaboration is long from over, as it’s been reported Ziegler will be doing more projects with Sia now that she’s left Dance Moms. She’s even expected to be in a movie directed by the singer-songwriter. Guess we’ll have to stay tuned!
