Super Bowl XI – For the fifth consecutive time, the Raiders stood first in their division in the 1976 NFL season. Beating formidable opponents such as the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers in post-season games, the Raiders made it into the Super Bowl, their second such appearance. Super Bowl XI was played on January 9, 1977, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The Raiders faced NFC champions, the Minnesota Vikings. This was the Vikings’ fourth Super Bowl appearance, however the more experienced Vikings lost to the Raiders 14-32.
Super Bowl XV – At the end of the 1980 regular season, the Raiders made the playoffs for the first time since 1977. They came second in their division and entered the playoffs as a wild card team. The Raiders nevertheless won their divisional and conference championships and advanced into Super Bowl XV. Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs are the fiercest rivals of the Raiders. The Kansas City Chiefs are the only team in the AFC West that the Raiders have a losing record against. Needless to say, the Chiefs lead the overall series against the Raiders.
Los Angeles Chargers – The Chargers-Raiders rivalry started in 1963, when the Raiders defeated the Chargers twice in the fourth quarter. Raiders also held a winning streak against the Chargers 16-0-2 from 1968 to 1977. Currently, the Raiders have an upper hand in the overall series against the Chargers.
