IDB Systems Provides Digital Satellite Network Capability for Bangkok Broadcasting Television Network | About Verizon

JACKSON, Miss. (August 24, 1996)–

IDB Systems, a subsidiary of WorldCom, Inc., (Nasdaq/NM:WCOM) has
signed an agreement to provide state-of-the-art digital satellite
technology for Bangkok Broadcasting Television (BBTV) to support
coverage of news events throughout Thailand.

The $3.3 million contract includes equipping three mobile vans
with digital satellite networking technology and converting 10 of
BBTV’s 2.4-meter remote satellite stations to digital technology.
Last year, IDB Systems installed 35 remote satellite receiving
stations across Thailand for BBTV.

“This contract will equip Bangkok Broadcasting with the
highest quality equipment in the industry today,” said John
Overstreet, vice president and general manager of IDB Systems.
“Few systems in the United States utilize digital technology,
especially for their mobile vans.”

The three vans each will be fitted with 1.2-meter antennas at IDB
Systems’ facilities in Dallas, then shipped to Bangkok for use by
BBTV.

BBTV’s network is linked via satellite parked in
geosynchronous orbit 22,500 miles above the earth.

IDB Systems has installed both temporary and permanent facilities
from the Arctic Circle to Africa. In the United States, it has set up
flyaway stations for such major news events as the San Francisco
earthquake, Hurricane Andrew and the Oklahoma City bombing. In March,
IDB Systems provided a pair of flyaway earth stations for Egypt’s
national phone company to meet the telecommunications needs of media
and government officials for a global anti-terrorism summit.

IDB Systems, based in Dallas, provides expert engineering, design
and integration of satellite earth station facilities ranging from
flyaway stations to large, permanent installations worldwide. It
provides customized solutions for the specialized telecommunications
