How to watch Paramount Plus in the UK

The popular streaming service, which made its debut in the US in 2021, brings together blockbuster movies, TV series and children’s programming from a number of US television channels and film studios, including Nickelodeon, Showtime, Comedy Central, MTV, CBS and, of course, Paramount Pictures.

Paramount Plus launched in the UK last summer, and it’s the latest streaming service to compete with the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus and Amazon Prime Video .

Highlights include franchises such as the Star Trek universe, Taylor Sheridan’s hit series Yellowstone, as well as family-friendly franchises such as SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol and Rugrats.

In addition, Paramount is following in Netflix’s footsteps and investing in Paramount originals, with titles such as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The First Lady, The Man Who Fell to Earth and live-action series Halo.

The streaming service will also be the home of a selection of new blockbuster movies after their theatrical and home entertainment release, including Top Gun: Maverick.

Sky TV customers with a Sky Cinema subscription should have received the new channel at no additional cost when it launched in the UK and Ireland. However, viewers without a Sky Cinema subscription needn’t worry: you can sign up for a free seven-day trial at Amazon Prime Video and start watching straight away.

The news of the service’s arrival in these territories was announced on Tuesday 3rd May 2022.

Raffaele Annecchino, President and CEO, International Networks, Studios and Streaming, Paramount Global, said in a statement: “Paramount is known for its leading portfolio of premium entertainment brands and a robust content engine that fuels our rapidly expanding streaming service, Paramount+.

“This year will be monumental for our streaming strategy as we accelerate our global ambitions, rapidly expanding Paramount+ in Europe beginning with the UK, Italy, Germany, France and more by the end of this year and debut in Asia with South Korea in June, followed by India in 2023.

“With an already expansive global footprint and a strong, long-term market-by-market strategy, we are well-poised to continue our positive momentum”.

Meanwhile, Maria Kyriacou, President, Australia, Canada, Israel and UK, Paramount, said: “The addition of Paramount+ to our strong portfolio of free-to-air, pay TV and streaming services will broaden the range of choice available to our audiences in the UK and Ireland. Paramount+

Paramount Plus is a streaming service that launched in the US on March 4, 2021, which also functions as a relaunched and rebranded version of the previous service CBS All Access.

The platform has been home to the popular Star Trek television franchise in the US but was otherwise struggling to establish itself in a competitive market.

It is hoped that this ambitious relaunch will change all that, with a new logo, name and interface coming along with an impressive slate of original television shows and movies (more on that below).

The entirety of the Star Trek franchise is available on Paramount Plus in the UK, as is the critically-acclaimed drama series Yellowstone.

The company announced a host of new TV shows set for release last year, and these included a revival of Frasier, a Grease prequel series, a mini-series about the making of the Godfather titled The Offer, and a Halo series based on the popular video game.

Other original series include 1883, The Offer, Mayor of Kingstown, Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, The First Lady, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Queen of the Universe and Jerry & Marge Go Large.

There are also new series in the works, too, including a remaking of the cartoon series Rugrats, plus live-action reboots for Dora and The Fairly Odd Parents.

Meanwhile, heading to Paramount Plus is a prequel of British crime film, Sexy Beast. Speaking about Sexy Beast, Ben Frow, chief content officer for ViacomCBS UK, said: “These titles give a flavour of the high-quality local content we are lining up for Paramount Plus and we look forward to sharing details of more series from UK indies in the coming weeks. We still want to hear the best ideas out there as we plan towards the UK launch of Paramount Plus and beyond”.

From Germany, Paramount Plus has greenlit Simon Beckett’s The Chemistry of Death, a psychological crime series inspired by Beckett’s bestselling novels, which revolve around forensic anthropologist Dr. David Hunter.

Paramount Plus has commissioned second seasons for two shows out of Mexico: Cecilia and Los Enviados.

In addition to this, Paramount Plus also boasts the entirety of the Star Trek franchise, which is the reason behind the long delay with Star Trek: Discovery which will no longer be on Netflix for international territories outside of the US.
