How do I create an ad-hoc network on Windows XP? – PhotoSync

You can create a Wi-Fi network between two or more devices without using a Wi-Fi router. These networks are often referred to as ad-hoc networks. All you need is a computer with Wi-Fi running Windows XP.

1. Click on Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.
2. Double click on Wireless Network Connection.
3. Right-click your wireless network connection, and then click “Properties”.
4. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Wireless Networks tab.
5. On the Wireless Networks tab, under Preferred networks, click “Add”.
6. In the Wireless network properties dialog box, on the Association tab, type the name of your ad-hoc network (SSID).
   If you want to secure your network, enter a 13 character password for WEP Data encryption.
7. Clear the “The key is provided for me automatically” check box and select the “This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network” check box.
8. Click “OK” to save your changes.
9. Now your iOS devices can join the network you’ve created by selecting it in the Wi-Fi section of the device settings

   

10. After connecting your iOS device with the ad-hoc network give your computer some time to assign a valid internet address to your iOS device. This may take a few seconds.
