Flare Network FAQs – Learn more about Flare, Songbird, and ExFi
Everything you need to know about the Flare network and the Flare (FLR) token in Exodus.
In this article:
What is the Flare Network?
The Flare Network is a new layer-1 blockchain aiming to connect everything, including off-chain data and other layer-1 blockchains through their F-Asset, State Connector, and Layer Cake protocols.
Flare officially launched in observation mode on July 13, 2022. During this time, the network will be tested and become fully decentralized as validation power passes from the Flare Foundation to the Flare Time-Series Oracle (FTSO) data providers.
Upon exiting observation mode, the initial Flare (FLR) token distribution of 15% will take place. It is at this time that you can claim your initial FLR airdrop using your Exodus FLR private keys. The remaining 85% will be distributed over the following 36 months.
The Flare Foundation has also issued the first Flare Improvement Proposal (FIP.01). If the proposal passes, after the initial FLR airdrop of 15%, any FLR token holder will have to wrap their FLR into WFLR in order to continue receiving rewards.
For more information on FIP.01, please see this section: What is the Flare Improvement Proposal (FIP.01)?
To keep up-to-date with the Flare network, you can check out the official Flare network blog.
The Flare network token has been renamed from Spark to Flare (FLR). You can read the official announcement here.
What is the difference between the Flare Network snapshot and launch?
The Flare snapshot occurred at 0:00 UTC on December 12, 2020.
The Flare (FLR) token distribution is planned to begin on on January 9th at 23:59 UTC. When this happens, the airdropped tokens will be delivered to your Flare address.
The Flare Network is organizing this so that you will receive your airdropped tokens in a 1:1.0073 ratio based on your XRP holdings in your XRP address at the time of the snapshot. To read the official announcement from Flare Networks, please click here.
If you held XRP inside your Exodus wallet during the snapshot and registered your XRP address before June 12, 2021, you’ll be eligible to receive the FLR airdrop.
How is Exodus handling the Flare Network airdrop?
Because you are in complete control of your Exodus wallet, you always have access to 100% of your funds. So even if Exodus does not support the Flare token, you will still be able to access your FLR tokens by locating your Flare (FLR) private key and importing it into a wallet that supports the airdrop.
Please be very careful with your 12-word secret recovery phrase and private keys, because they control access to your funds. Never share them with anyone, and only import them into platforms that you trust 100%. If you choose to import your 12-word phrase or private keys into a third-party platform, you do so at your own risk. How do I tell if my XRP address is registered?
First, search for your XRP address on XRPSCAN. Then, click on the Flare tab.
If your XRP address was eligible and is registered, this will show you your Flare address, snapshot balance, Flare (FLR) claim, and Songbird claim:
After the Flare network exits observation mode you will receive the initial 15% of your claim amount shown beside Flare FLR Claim.
If your XRP address was not eligible, it will look like this:
If your XRP address was eligible but is not registered, it will look like this:
Can I register my XRP address?
No. Registration for the Flare (FLR) airdrop closed at 0:00 UTC on June 12, 2021. This end date was set by the Flare network.

It’s not possible to claim your Flare tokens directly in Exodus. However, it is possible to do so on another platform that supports Flare tokens, such as MetaMask. Please note that MetaMask is a third-party platform that is not associated with Exodus.
If you have previously claimed your SGB airdrop tokens, you may experience an error when importing your Flare private keys. In this case, jump to Step 5 and begin by adding the Flare network RPC to your MetaMask wallet.
Please be very careful with your private keys, because they control access to your funds. Never share them with anyone, and only import them into platforms that you trust 100%. If you choose to import your private keys into a third-party platform, you do so at your own risk. To find out more, check out this article from our Knowledge Base: How do I keep my money safe?

What is the Songbird network?
The Flare Network released Songbird, a “Canary” network for Flare.
The Songbird network has its own token, Songbird (SGB), which was airdropped to the future recipients of the Flare (FLR) distribution. For every 1 XRP that was held at the time of the snapshot, 0.1511 SGB was allocated.
Whether or not Exodus supports the Songbird token, if you registered your XRP address for the Flare airdrop, you will be able to access the SGB airdrop at your Flare address, via your Flare (FLR) private keys.

What is the Flare Improvement Proposal (FIP.01)?
Any changes to how the Flare network functions must be voted on and approved by wrapped Flare (WFLR) token holders. Changes to the network are proposed in what’s known as a Flare Improvement Proposal (FIP).
The first proposal for changes to the network is FIP.01. WFLR holders can vote on FIP.01 starting on Friday, January 20, 2023. Voting ends on Friday, January 27, 2023.
This proposal will change how the remaining airdrop of FLR tokens will be distributed, along with other improvements such as reducing the token inflation scheme and enabling escrow accounts.
If the proposal passes, any FLR token holders would be required to wrap their FLR into WFLR to continue receiving the FLR distribution. This would mean that only token holders of WFLR would receive their remaining rewards.
The remaining 85% of the airdrop (or the percentage remaining at the time of approval) would no longer be sent to the address where you claimed the original 15%. Instead, you’d receive those rewards at the address from which you hold your WFLR.
To vote, you can navigate to Flare’s voting portal on or after January 20, 2023: Flare portal.
Votes are determined by the amount of wrapped FLR (WFLR) you hold in your connected wallet. To find out more about voting regulations, please visit Flare’s article here: Voting.
For a complete breakdown of the FIP.01, you can view the official documentation here: FIP.01 – Flare Distribution, Inflation & Incentive Pool Proposal.

What is the Experimental Finance (EXFI) platform?
Experimental Finance (EXFI) is a platform launched by Flare Finance on the Songbird Network.
The ExFi platform was launched with 3 products, namely: FlareX, FlareLoans, and FlareFarm.
It enables developers to create products, and have them reviewed prior to consideration for addition to the Flare Finance platform.
In addition, the platform was developed in part to help eliminate bugs, hacks, and other errors in products from reaching the main network.
The ExFi token (EXFI) is the native token of the ExFi platform. It will be used for different applications across the ExFi platform, such as a fee replacement token and yield farming.
When is the ExFi token airdrop?
The EXFI airdrop snapshot is now complete and occurred on December 12, 2021.
All Songbird (SGB) and Wrapped-Songbird (WSGB) holders were eligible to receive the airdropped EXFI tokens in proportion to their holdings at the time the snapshot was taken.
The ExFi tokens were airdropped at an adjusted ratio of 1 EXFI for every 392 SGB as explained in Flare Finance’s Gamma Phase article.
How is Exodus handling the ExFi token airdrop?
It’s not possible to claim your ExFi tokens directly in Exodus. However, it is possible to do so on another platform that supports ExFi tokens, such as MetaMask. Please note that MetaMask is a third-party platform.
While Exodus doesn’t have plans to support the ExFi token, you will always have 100% access to and control over your funds.
You’ll be able to access your EXFI tokens by locating your Flare (FLR) private key and importing it into a wallet that supports EXFI.
